On August 28, 2018, a fire broke out on the roof of a Primark store in Belfast as it neared the end of a major renovation, damaging the structure. The demolished structure is currently being rebuilt. The new Primark Clothing store extension was spared from the fire and opened on December 8, 2018.

Primark opened its first store in the United States in Downtown Crossing, Boston, in 2015, in the area that was once the flagship store of Filene’s, eventually expanding to New York City, Philadelphia, and Danbury. After ten years of building a chain of about 40 stores in Spain, Primark opened its second-largest store in Madrid in October 2015. Primark announced its U.S. retail expansion to Chicago in July 2019, with a three-level, 45,000-square-foot flagship location on State Street. As a result of the lockdown, the company announced a £430 million loss in revenue.
