Indiana Ticket Company is a state-owned and privately run company headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana. The company was founded in December 1845 by Charles T. Waterman, and originally sold tickets to horse races. The company's name is derived from the state of Indiana and the company was the first to use "Indianapolis" in its name. In 1853, the company opened a retail store in downtown Indianapolis. In 1868, the company began providing services for ticket sales for local horse races and sporting events. In 1875, the company was incorporated under the name "Indiana Ticket Company," with a board of directors consisting of twelve members. By 1893, the company had expanded into a larger office building on North Illinois Street in Indianapolis, and had started selling tickets for local theater performances and vaudeville shows. In addition to its ticket sales business, the company also produced labels for office supply items such as envelopes and postcards, made labels for school supplies such as pencils and other items for students, and produced stamps. In 1899, the company merged with two other Indianapolis companies to form "Indiana Consolidated Stock Company," which later became "Indiana Consolidated Stock Company Inc." In 1929, "Indiana Consolidated Stock Company Inc." merged with another Indianapolis-based company to form "Indiana Consolidated Stock Co., Inc." In 1978, a further merger created "Indiana Ticket Company, Inc." Today, the company is still privately owned and operates from offices on Capitol Avenue in Indianapolis.
