Review: What About ME? - Until I attended the course, I hadn't thought about a unit like this. A distress beacon is built into commercial watercraft and aircraft. If, God forbid, you need to activate the onboard beacon, in most cases, you will "go for help", and walk away from the boat or plane. And hikers don't have a craft to begin with. Thus, a Personal Locator Beacon assists your rescuer in finding YOU (beyond the aircraft or watercraft you are in). This unit is both safe from accidental activation and easy-to-operate if needed. It is equipped with both the locator and GPS. I would give a potential purchaser two pieces of advice. 1) As is, it will not float. Put the floatation collar on it. 2) Once you have it, SEND IN THE PAPERWORK. It makes it a whole lot easier to find you, if we need to.
Review: PLB as expected - Arrived as scheduled. Cost comparable other sellers of Artex. It is not water proof, but I knew that when I purchased it. It is more compact than I expected. Registration is REQUIRED, no fees. Very easy via NOAA web site. Received a written confirmation in about 5 days from NOAA. Purchased for when I fly my airplane over remote areas.

**Q: I noticed that it said that it was non chargeable is there a place i can go to replace the battery?**
A: When the battery expires (after 7 years), you can send it in to ACR to have it replaced for $150. Or if you like taking risks with your life, you can replace it yourself for $5(it runs on 3 CR123A cells, welded and heat shrinked into a single battery pack).

**Q: I plan to use it in taiwan (national code 416). is it possible to pre-set artex plb with 416 code?**
A: Unfortunately no. Every unit sold in the US is built with a US code.

**Q: What is the cost for battery replacement (after 7 years)?   Do all distributors replace for free if used in actual emergency?**
A: The price is usually around 1/3 of the full price, but it will depend on the conditions of your beacon once it's sent to the battery replacement center. 
If you are in an emergency you can just notify the manufacturer and they should replace it for free.

**Q: Do i have to be a us citizen to register this plb? i will use it in the us but i’m not from the us. i do have an address and a phone number in the us.**
A: Hello, as long as you have an address and phone number applicable to the country you intend to register this product, you will have no issues and can use this PLB anywhere in the world.

Best insurance for everyone. This is a professional system with one mission and that is to save lives. iFly aircraft and travel in various countries and would never leave home without it. If you have nothing else in your travel emergency kit you must have shelter water food fire starting and a PLB. I I'm not interested in monthly service charges, and this system has none. in the event of a real emergency I'm not interested in texting or other unnecessary extras. The only priority is survive get a signal out and get rescued. Highly recommended.
