I recently found myself in this situation.These simple adapters get around the problem. With them, you can connect a USB-C device to a standard USB3 or USB3.1 Type-A socket. Obviously, you lose out on some of the extras that USB-C can offer but, in most cases, this is not a problem.One of the devices in question was a webcam. It came with a USB-C plug but I didn’t have a spare USB-C socket to plug it into.
