Review: Best Laser Print Quality, Super Fast, Quality Build, Higher Toner Cost But Worth It - I have bought several all-in-one monochrome laser printers over the years from Brother, Lexmark, and HP. I have found that generally with the higher print speeds, the print quality is typically mediocre since in order to keep the cost-per-page low, less toner is used and the print quality suffers. If you're doing general business printing where high quality type and graphics are not that important and lower cost per page is, other brands work well. (Although Lexmark all-in-ones I have used have overly complicated touch screens.) However, this time I wanted the near typeset quality print that most laser printers used to have decades ago, so I bought the Canon ImageCLASS D1650 and I have been very pleased with it so far. The cost-per-page of this all-in-one quoted in reviews is about double of other comparable brands, BUT those other brands have separate imaging drums while the Canon has the drum built into the toner cartridge, so when you replace toner you're also replacing the drum. This leads to higher cost per page, but consistently high quality print, much cleaner type and graphics than my other all-in-ones. So the higher cost per page is worth it to me. The build quality of this printer is solid, and it's more compact than other all-in-one printers in my offices. Time to print from your computer is blazingly fast, almost instantly on my Macs and PCs. You can add on an additional two paper trays if desired to make this a great workgroup printer. The touch screen interface is customizable, easy to use, and not overly complicated unlike a Lexmark all-in-one I have. Setup on my networked Macs and PCs was straightforward, though driver installation was not as easy as my HP printers; once the driver was installed on Macs, the printer must be manually added in the OS control panel, and in some cases the printer did not show up in network discovery and had to be added using the printer's IP address. We always set static IP addresses on our network printers, so that was no big deal for me, but newbies and nontechnically inclined people may find it somewhat difficult. Scanning using ReadIris OCR software and TWAIN software for images works fine with this printer, as does scanning to PDFs. The one-pass duplex scanning and faxing also speeds those processes. The legal sized document glass and paper trays are also a plus. Since print quality is important to me, I'll likely buy a Canon laser printer in the future as long as I can get the near typeset quality print.
Review: Best Printer ever! - Oaky, So I just got my D1650 printer a few days ago and so far I really Love it! I had a Brother MFC8850 Printer that I had for 10 years and it gave me good service in those 10 years but the print quality was low and the scans were bad I got tons of complaints from suppliers and customers on both the scans and faxes. After 10 years it finely died and the reviews on the brothers scared me so I went with the Canon. I was fearing the setup but if you take it slow and go on their website it is not to bad. The print quality is excellent and the wifi set up was not to bad. We are not able to use 2 desk top computers and my laptop. We even setup our cell phones. I can't say enough how much this printer is awesome. Got the printer in 3 days very happy with the purchase from this seller.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Mostly Good
*by B***R on December 2, 2024*

This is a review of Canon D1650. Overall, really good. First, the box it comes in is both amazing and diabolical. The top and bottom are only held together by the hand hold flaps. Cut the tape on the top, unfold the top leaves of the inner and outer box, then just pull up the outer upper half and the bottom of the box can be untaped and unfolded. I shudder to think what would happen in transit if the handhold flaps ripped. Chilling! The printer is taped as securely as if a child was given his/her very first roll of tape. There are tape strips everywhere. I mean everywhere! Once you get it all apart. Load the driver DVD onto your pc. I was running Windows 11 Pro for this test of setup. I initially setup for wired ethernet. Later after checking Print, Scan, and Fax, I switched to USB. It was very fussy. It required reloading the driver for Print, fumbling around and restarting. But it worked. I was simply able to change the port settings for FAX and Scan. Some of the lesser known things about this multifunction is that it can fax a document from your pc through a print to fax driver. That and the WiFi, and NFC features are not pointed out with great emphasis. I did not try the WiFi or NFC yet. Will edit this review later if any problems arise. One very common complaint is the touch screen. I loaded the latest firmware, but it still was fussy. First you may not realize there is a plastic sheet with a tab covering the display while in transit. That gets peeled off. But there is another plastic sheet underneath WHICH DOES NOT GET PEELED OFF. It is the daily use protector and is a little billowy. So what I found is the best way to use the screen is to employ a stylus for a tablet/smartphone to make selections. Your finger will still do the best job for swiping up or down to scroll. If you do not want to use a stylus, then use the edge of your fingernail to tap your choices. This may sound silly, but it works. The toner cartridge does not have any tab to flex, nor any protector ribbon to pull out. Do the rotational shake and shove it back in and your ready to print or copy. Copies are good quality. Prints are good quality. Faxes have many high resolution settings you can choose. Scans can be set in a variety of file formats and resolutions. The scan quality is good both on the document feeder and the platen. This multifunction has a legal size platten. Fantastic if you want to scan 8.5 x 14 documents without using a document feeder. The only bother so far is the speaker while the fax is connecting is a little buzzy or hummy. It is not in the phone line. My guess is the audio circuit for the speaker is picking up rfi from the internals or the touch display. It does not sound in the phone line if you pick up an extension and therefore does not affect anything other than my nerves. So far, so good. EDIT: Despite the fact that NFC printing from mobile devices is listed in the manual online and drawings depict an area on the control display for the NFC antenna, there is no such antenna and no such NFC function in the D1650. You can print from mobile in two ways. One is to turn the D1650 into a host and connect your mobile device to it. That will allow printing of documents that are already on the mobile device, but you cannot connect to the internet with the mobile device at the same time. The other way allows you to connect the D1650 to a WiFi access point and then connect to the mobile device using Canon Print app. You cannot fax, but you can print and scan. Note Canon Print Business is phased out and Canon Print is used instread. Also note that this requires that your access point is set to permit WiFi devices to communicate with one another. Also, when in sleep mode, the D1650 fan keeps running. This is not a good solution for longevity of the fan. Since I am in a home environment, I just shut off the D1650 if I know I am not going to use it soon. Another issue is there is a very strong plastic odor that I am hoping will go away. I noticed this because the fan keeps on running. Still an excellent machine, but not without a few flaws. I would still purchase it.
