A: haven't experienced that problem...just raise your hand above the clock, and it should light up.

A: Dear Buyer,  to set the alarm for this clock you need to get the backside of the clock the tear case. There's a knob to set the time and another for the alarm.

Sleek design, well put together. The dial light is off at night and can be activated by placing your hard over the top of the clock. Works through proximity detection. Coot. The problem is, when activated at night in a dark room the light is bluish-while and blinding. Deal breaker, at least for me.
