Review: simple, reliable switching that solves real rig problems - If you need a straightforward A/B/Y switcher to route your guitar signal between two amps, two inputs, or to bypass parts of a pedal chain, this little Donner box does the job really well. What I use it for • Switching between two amps (A or B), or running both at once (Y) depending on the song/part. The mode switch lets you choose A/B or A&B operation. • Bypassing pedals / routing options on a board without rewiring everything—super handy if you want a “go straight to amp” option. • It also supports bi-directional use (one input to two outputs, or two inputs to one output), which makes it more versatile than you’d expect for the price. Build / usability • Solid metal enclosure, compact footprint, and clear LED status (A = red, B = green, combined = yellow). • True bypass design so it stays out of the way tone-wise. • Standard 9V center-negative power and very low current draw (~10mA). “Pro rig” relevance (why this style of pedal is so useful) If you’ve ever watched players with big stage sounds (think the multiple input / multiple amp vibe—Justin Hawkins / The Darkness type energy), a lot of that flexibility comes from simple switching and bypass routing so you can jump between different inputs/amps instantly without tap dancing. This pedal is a cheap, effective way to get that kind of routing capability on a normal board. Important safety note (seriously) This is for instrument/line-level switching, not speaker outputs. - Use it before the amp (to feed two amps, or two inputs). - Do NOT use it after an amp to connect multiple amp heads to a single cabinet—this can damage amps (especially tube amps). Bottom line A simple ABY box that works exactly as intended: reliable switching, true bypass, clear LEDs, compact, and great value. If you need easy routing options on a pedalboard, this is an easy 5-star.
Review: Donner's New ABY Box is a Winner - First of all, the value of this pedal is priceless. In other words, it is truly amazing but will not break the bank. Donner has created a pedal that operates as an ABY box as well as an AB box. Let me explain further. An ABY box allows you to take a signal, such as a guitar in my case, and will let you connect to two amps simultaneously. I personally use two Epiphone half stacks, one of them is displayed in the photos, in order to boost my power and have louder amplification. Both amps are only 5 watt tube driven heads with matching 1 12" cabinets. I could never find an amp that sounds so amazing, but one half stack was not loud enough to keep up with a full band at practice. Donner's ABY box allows me to push my guitar signal into 2 amps that happen to be identical which doubles my power and volume. -Figure 1 shows my guitar connected to an Epiphone Valve Jr. half stack and a Fender Frontman 10g simultaneously with the ABY feature. The AB box feature is an added bonus. This allows you to take your guitar signal and switch it back and forth between two amps. 1 amp could have just the right clean sound and the other amp could have just the right amount of distortion. Simply click the pedal and switch between the amp of your choice. When the light on the pedal is green, it will push the signal to the amp connected to the "A" position. Click the pedal again and the red light will connect to the "B" position. These positions could be whichever amp you want connected to either output. -Figure 2 shows the pedal being used as the ABY box pushing equal power to both amps. -Figure 3 shows the signal switchable between the two amps. When in AB mode you can switch the signal but they cannot be sent at the same time. It's either one amp or the other but your guitar pedals and effects possibilities are unlimited. Overall Review- As always, the construction is solid. It's all metal and the switch is easy to press yet has a satisfying click every time you tap it. The compact mini pedal design allows me to put a dozen of these Donner pedals on a tiny pedalboard! All the pedals they make are very aesthetically pleasing, in my opinion. The functionality of the ABY box is phenomenal. I paid 3 times as much for a bowtique ABY box that did not have the AB box option. The Donner box is far better in build quality and functionality. Although I've only had this pedal for a couple of days, based on the other 10 Donner pedals that I own, I'm pretty sure this will last the test of time. Donner has done it again with a fantastic pedal and I look forward to what they come up with next.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: "a genuine analogy delay with new cd2399gp(pt2399) ic installed." this is some weird advertising. its a digital delay? not analog?**
A: i opened up my og yellow fall and looked up the data sheet for the chip. It's a cool little chip from a chinese company, it's basically a hybrid design/mixed signal design.

the new chip is obviously inspired by the old panasonic/matsushita chips that electro harmonix used in the 90s, but the main difference is, the matsushita chip sampled to an array of capacitors and this thing samples to an array of 24-bit registers

the sample clock is an analog multivibrator (same as an og memory man, etc).

this type of design is colloquially referred to as a "bucket-brigade" delay. in either the og matsushita, or this new chinese chip, the samples are shifted through each register, similar to the way a line (bucket-brigade) of fire fighters would have passed buckets of water from a well to a burning house in olden times.

i used to own a 90s deluxe memory man, and i really prefer the tone of a stock yellow fall to a stock 90s dx mem-man.

the 90s dx memory man leveraged a compander circuit to process the signal in and out of the matsushita. This could be quite a tone suck, and the pedal wasn't true-bypass.
the stock chips in the EH were dirt cheap op-amps, but they could easily be tuned and/or replaced with precision op-amps, which could vastly improve the perceived dynamic range of the pedal. (try to pick up a 90s dx mem-man if you like to mod pedals, it's a modder's dream!)

This new chinese chip does not suffer from any of those problems, because, of course, 24-bit registers can sample a very respectable dynamic range, and everything is true-bypass, these days.

all in all, i would say that the yellow fall is a modern classic! Everybody should have one!

I just wish Donner would make a Deluxe YF with tap tempo and expression pedal/CV sync input and sample to 32bit floating point registers with a pot to control the sample precision (to add a bit-crusher effect)! that would be my DREEEAM delay pedal!!!!

I hope my long-winded answer was helpful to understanding these things!

**Q: Does the package include a 9V power cable?**
A: Thanks for your questionNot，there is no power cable included, only a guitar pedal!

**Q: anyone compare this to the behringer compressor?**
A: I haven't compared this to the Behringer compressor but I have compared it to a MXR Dyna comp. The Behringer pedals I've had sounded good but were not very well made and crapped out on me after not much use. The Donner is a well built pedal and has a wide range of compression for the price. It is also a pretty quiet compressor compared to the Dyna Comp. I have a few of the smaller footprint pedals (Moore and Ibanez) and this one is built like a tank. For $40 it is a good purchase.

**Q: works with bass?**
A: Not very good, I play Bass

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Wish I had bought this years ago!
*by R***G on April 27, 2023*

Works great! The ABY box allows a number of things to be done, you can switch between 2 inputs or reverse it and have 2 outputs, or you can set it up as a Y configuration. I use it for an "on/off" for my bass input. The LED is great for indicating the "on/off" as it switches between green and red, I put the output on the B side so it's green when active, and when I switch to A it turns red letting me know there's no signal going to the amp. The box is very sturdy, solid metal, and the button is heavy duty with a positive latch. It switches silently, not pop or buzz whatsoever and I can't see any indication that it colors the signal in any way. Some users complained about humming or buzzing, and I had that happen the first time I used it, but then I realized I was using a speaker cable and not an instrument cable. I switched cables and the noise went away immediately and now it's dead silent. I can't comment on the "stickiness" of it because I use velcro on my pedals. Definitely well worth the $32! Don't buy an expensive switch, save your money and get this one because it literally does exactly the same thing as the more expensive brands.
