This book kept me engaged and left me in awe. I do not care to read about the supernatural. Specifically, anything relating to demons or the devil. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A favorite in my childhood and into my adulthood

I have read numerous of Donna Jo Napoli’s beautiful retellings of popular fairytales, but this remains my favorite. It is a powerful story of redemption, of a good and holy woman who lost everything through a single mistake, but spends the rest of her life trying to avoid evil—even when it seems fruitless. While the events in this retelling do not correspond directly with the fairytale we know, it fits with the heart of the story Napoli wishes to tell. The ending, too, is nearly perfect, as the story comes full circle. I would highly suggest this masterpiece to any child, teenager, or adult who loves a different spin on fairytales.
