Inside the desertcart shipping box was a packing material and then a second box which contained the can. Around the can was cut out cardboard and held the can suspended inside the box. The can was in an airtight plastic bag that was sealed. The can itself came with a plastic lid sealer around the rim. All of that packaging must have worked because the can arrived in perfect condition with no dents or leaks. I am thinking about trying to order a gallon of primer and/or paint to see how it travels.
