Those wire nuts are intended for residential and comercial wiring, and NOT FOR automotive (cars, motorcycle, etc) use!, in that case you need to use crimp tubes or welding the wires and after that apply shrink tubes. The actual electrician who put in the new wiring had left a handful of connectors with rubber skirts. I liked the idea of them, so I went in search of more but couldn't find any locally. I'm presently working my way through a box of these 3M connectors, and so far they've been great -- they really do get a good grip on the wires. A recurring issue I'd been having with putting light fixtures on the older '40s wiring was that the copper often shot right out the tip of other nuts after a few hard twists; it's still early days, but so far that's yet to happen with these 3M connectors.
