I bought this because my office is in a high traffic area of the house, and I didn't want some plastic eyesore sitting underneath my desk. The unit is adjustable, which isn't super clear from some of the marketing. The knobs on the sides can be loosened, and then you can pull the middle of the unit up. I believe the height range is between 3.75- 6.75". The base has some rubber bands that will protect the floor from scratching, and prevent the unit from sliding. There's no way to lock the wood plate itself in place, its always free to pivot.
