However the ridged version of this vent would also be a great option as the finished product may be just slightly have more of an even finish on the edges. Two weeks later I put it on the ridge above the house and experienced the same effect - the air conditioner runs less frequently, for less time. The proof will be in the kWh next month!The product was well-packaged, a coil of nails was included as advertised, and each box had a set of easy-to-follow directions. It was a simple installation and looks good from the ground. I can feel that. Directions were pretty good. If you have done a ridge vent before than this is not all that bad. I was still trying to figure out if the shingles along the edges ( not on the vent) if they go over or under the black mat. I went under about a foot (sort of even with the vent hole) and then overlapped the vent shingles about 6 inches ( to avoid wind blowing rain in from the side). And of course the mat was over lapped by a foot over the vent hole. * so the vent hole is 1 ft shorter than the black mat. The shingles on the side of the mat underlapped the mat by a foot. Then the mat vent shingles overlapped the other shingles by about 6 inches). I would take a picture but way too lazy to get the ladder out and go on roof. So far no leaks.NOTES: I used ridge vent shingles which are cut at 12 inches.
