Not on the top of the can, push it right on the material inside the container then put the cover back on. Works great! **Q: Will it work to patch a chip/gouge on PVC trim?** A: I haven't done that personally, but I think that's exactly what this product for. It is essentially sandable filler for PVC (and other materials). **Q: Is it stainable?** A: Hello, Yes; To test, I applied some of the platinum patch to a small canvas, allowed it to dry, (did not sand) then applied some black Gel Stain to the canvas, and it took really well. Good luck with your project! **Q: Would this work to fill a crack on composite decking?** A: I would bet so. I have used it on everything else like wood, steel, hardy board, plastic, and concrete. It does come in a 16oz. Plastic bucket and its sandable too. If anything is going to work on composite decking its this product.
