A: 1 1/2” wide, inside of the bracket at the tips.

**Q: does it fold or come apart easy**
A: I don’t think it comes apart. It compacts, slides, down into itself.

**Q: Does this lock in place at your desired length?**
A: Yes

**Q: Could this be used to take hanging flower baskets up and down for watering?**
A: I would think it could work if they were not very heavy.  It works great for clothes in a tall closet, but have not used it on plants.  It's more expensive, but a drip system would be more convenient for plants!
