However I believe that is designed to work with a Cambridge amp or receiver. If you are using a different brand I am not sure the remote can be synced and of course if receiver/ amp has no remote control capabilities then remote won’t raise or lower volume. **Q: Can i connect axc35 directly to active speakers such as klipsch r-51pm?** A: yes there is a RED/WHITE on the back of this that you connect to the RED/WHITE on the back of the speakers. I think you just need to flick the little switch to "line" on the speakers. "phono" is just for record players I believe. cambridge wrote on the back of the cd player upside down which is handy when you are connecting. **Q: Is the cd player designed to sit on top of the receiver?** A: The other way around. There aren't any vent holes the top and it is not a tiny CD player, so your amp can sit on top without falling off. It's a quality player without too many features. I own a Pioneer and a Denon DJ players to make mixes of my CDs that I record on my CD. recorder through my ancient Realistic mixer. Actually, the Cambridge is the newest piece of equipment I own. I run a 45 year old system I bought while stationed in Japan. This CD player replaced a Pioneer CD player I've had since they first started coming out in 1985. Still working but the door started having a mind of it's own. This Cambridge Audio player has a great internal DAC which I have to assume is a huge upgrade over whatever Pioneer had in 1985. I thought buying a Hi-fi system was complicated in 1979 but these days, damn. The digital circus is downright confusing. Every review I read had this CD player at the top of the list in its price range. Looks great and sounds even better. The remote is a bit much as it's made for various systems so there's lots of unnecessary buttons but has what is needed. Easy setup. While it may not have all the bells and whistles of higher prices players, it has all I really wanted, a good internal DAC which produces great sound quality.
