So this keyboard case was a great addition. As this was her first experience owning an Apple product, it took a little time to get used to it. This case helps protect and support the system while using it. Managing to get the keyboard turned on and connected took a couple minutes (due to unfamiliarity with iPadOS). But once done, it worked wonderfully. The keyboard will slide out if the case and system are turned around too quickly, but that's not surprising.
