Also something that looked good too. I think this helmet has achieved that goal.I did not say most cost effective. This is an expensive helmet. But then again, I choose to wear a helmet when many states are allowing riders to roam helmet-less.The flip up modular face works perfectly, as does the anti-fog lens. I also like the flip down tinted internal visor. Very Robocop-esqe.The helmet has good ventilation, and is pretty quiet overall.The internal padding is plush, and easily swapped out with optional internals to get that perfect fit. All of which are not cheap nor free, but the end result is great.TLDR: Expensive, but worth it. ### ⭐⭐ 2.0 out of 5 stars Shoei need a new design team *by A***D on Reviewed in the United States on May 27, 2015* It's difficult not to lose faith with the establishment when reading such glowing reviews for such a mediocre crash helmet. Perhaps advertising revenues have clouded their objectivity? Over a 30 year period I've had almost nothing but top-end crash helmets, and this one seemed to offer everything from the flip-up tinted visor to the anti-fog insert.Having re-read the online reviews in disbelief, these are my observations, none of which are favourable: It is without doubt the noisiest helmet I've ever worn. Simply unbelievable, and unacceptable. Not just the low frequency "loudness" noise, but also high-pitched whistling. On my ten minute commute, if I've set off without earplugs, I have to decide if I've got time to return home for them rather than continuing.... Then there's the venting system. It turns out that after years of research Shoei have created their most cooling-efficient lid yet. It's just a shame that visually there isn't a clue as to whether the vents are open or shut. It is so NOT obvious. I've removed my helmet and inspected it from all angles, and tried to fathom out which way they need to go. I need to go back to the operator's handbook again, because I've already forgotten. As a designer, the lack of here really irks me. It gets worse though. Shoei have decided that a fog insert that is so opaque as to be not approved for night time riding, is appropriate to fit as standard. When I'm riding to work at dawn, well night really, in the drizzle, with car headlights refracting off a non-approved film of plastic so that I can't see clearly without opening the visor completely, my brand new top-of-the-range Shoei is starting to feel like a major disappointment. So confident were they that it wouldn't mist up, that they forgot to check VISIBILITY. Indeed there isn't even a detente in the visor mechanism to allow the visor to stay open a fraction, as on almost every Shoei, ever. SO the choice is open, or shut. Nice touch. I now have drizzle on the inside of my double-screened visor, which if you wipe firmly with a fore-finger whilst riding, will actually pop off the visor. Yes, really.This is a very expensive helmet considering its obvious flaws. I used mine yesterday, because it was sunny and I was going into town. I didn't ride fast, and it was fine. OK, nothing more. I can see why it spends most of its time sat on a shelf in the closet.
