This is the first I have seen which fits so incorrectly. All shoes vary, but this one is much more narrow than I have seen from Avia. I have a very round/meaty, and slightly wide foot and wear an 8.5 W or 9 M to compensate width if I cannot find a wide 8.5. I bought this shoe in a 9 and its length is closer to an 8.5 and the shoe is quite a bit narrow. Fortunately, the shoe has inner height and a sizable toe box, and is made of firm but pliable material. So when i placed inside of them an after market insole, I felt the shoe was an 8.5 2E in length and slightly wider than an 8.5 M. This shoe will be a slightly awkward fit for most for certain.THE GOOD - if the shoe fits, out of all Avia shoes including their running series shoes like the Guidance 4 running shoe, this shoe has the most shock absorbing outer soles I have felt. I added SOFSOUL insoles (their casual memory foam version, not the sport version that is actually not as absorbent of shock and is too bulky) and went for a run on the streets and have never felt so good. I have osteoarthritis in my great toe, bone spurs in the same toe, and the other foot has been reconstructed in surgery due to a fall. The setup I recommend for a running shoe is as described above. These are perfect. Due to the reviews I ordered size 10. I have a regular/ narrow width foot. These shoes fit like a glove, snug but not uncomfortable. I don't run so I really can't comment on that. I live on the top of a 500' hill in Seattle so everything is downhill from my house. I was hoping for some extra traction on those hills. They were a little slick at first.
