Review: Exquisite book from start to finish - This absolutely beautiful book provides detailed and gorgeous photos of the work of the de Gourney wallpaper firm. Photograph are high resolution with rich colors. The rooms pictured with the wall paper highlighted are enchanting. Calling this wallpaper “ wallpaper” , well, it’s way more than that, it’s fantastic hand painted works of art. Purely aspirational, the wallpaper is so expensive it is reserved for the one percent . However, that didn’t stop me from pouring over the book and throughly enjoying the design and artwork in each unique room. The author is the owner and genius behind the company. He describes the opening of China to western capitalism and how he created a thriving business by developing the company using talented Chinese artists. Unfortunately, Mr. Gurney, the de Gournay of the company, has a rather outdated, colonial, patronizing tone while writing about the Chinese. I found it distasteful and a bit tone deaf.
