This one comes after the Level 2 books but seems to be about the same as far as difficulty goes. We love the BOB books because they have more words that or son can decode independently than the readers that he is bringing home from school. He is in Kindergarten and has been able to sound out 3 letter words with short vowel sounds and knows about 100 sight words (the, is, like, what,...) and this set in particular has been great for reinforcing and practicing. There are a few 4 letter words with blended consonants and he is able to navigate them. The level 1 or level 2 readers that he gets at school and the ones we have bought from the school book sales are FULL of big, non-phonetic words. I guess they figure that kids can generally guess what the big words are by looking at the pictures. I don't like that, though, because it encourages guessing instead of decoding.... so we much prefer these BOB books. This one comes with some cards for changing a word by changing the first letter. He already does a great job reading so this is just reinforcement. The size of the books are perfect for little hands.
