How to determine the cut, and how to connect them seamlessly after the cut?** A: Make the cut with a hack saw and clamp the rod down on a bench or use a bench vise (makes it much easier to hold piece steady and get a good cut). Use a file to smooth the cut edges after making the cut. Then insert the middle, smaller diam. rod in between the two outer rods. To get to a 90 width, assuming the rods come 51" long, you will have to cut off at least 12" off from one outer rod.....or, (if your anal, lol) you can cut off an even amt. from both outer rods to make them even (but that's overkill since nobody will see after the drapes on) **Q: my window measures 70" wide. Does the rod extend to exactly 72"? Just wondering if there is any wiggle room or do I need to go up to the wider length** A: I just measured mine, and at absolute full extension, it's 75 inches. Subtract the 1-inch finials, and you have 73 inches. I haven't hung it yet, so it might not be functional extended all the way to 75 inches, as it seems a little wobbly at that point. **Q: Does this set contain or need a center support when the rods are fully extended?** A: It comes with a center support in addition to end supports and yes, you will need it if the rods are fully extended. I used a total of 28 clip rings and 4 56x96 panels to cover 3 side-by-side windows spanning 110" (including trim). **Q: Are the finials removable? Can they be replaced by decorative ones?** A: They are removable. Ordered the Umbra Capps 1-1/4 doubl rod for our dining room picture window. Installed in minutes and strong enough to hold 6 panel curtains (4 velvet and 2 sheer). Also, all of the panel curtains are grommets and fit on the front and rear rods with enough clearance and easy movement. I will order again for another window. The item doesn't come with directions other than basic install images, but this wasn't a problem for us-- it could make install a bit more challenging for the novice, but I don't think that's worth deterring the purchase as they are great rods. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ sturdy and modern classic *by S***N on January 13, 2016* the instructions are minimal, but if you have every installed curtain rods before, it is easy enough. All the hardware is included, even the toggles if you need them for installing into drywall. These are sturdy and yet modern looking. The window is just over 72 inches so we didn't need the extender. I am not for sure why it is there. Other reviews give more details about this peculiar feature & not being stumped by its inclusion. We just installed them today, so can't say much about their longevity, but they look really good. Pls. note that the bigger rod has no choice but to be placed furthest away from the window (and thus best for the heaviest curtain). But the smaller rod- that must go to the inside (closest to the window) --is not fragile, it can pull its weight beyond a light sheer for sure. I recommend them! ### ⭐ cheep parts broken immediately *by A***R on July 7, 2024* The rods and brackets are nice but mounting plates for brackets are made out of a cheep metal. Once it is dropped on the floor, it broke.
