Review: Perfect hub, beautifuuly designed - It’s nice to give a review for product that actually turns out to be exactly as it promises. This Atolla USB hub is exactly what I was looking for. I have several devices, including a microphone headset and several external backup drives. Once the headset is plugged in it overrides the computer speakers. Many times when I forget to unplug it I end up fiddling with the speakers, until sanity takes its course and I realize what the problem is. You’d think I would learn after several times, but well we’re only human. As for the external drives, if I soft-boot or reboot my computer, the computer will read the external drives as if they are the internal drive and not re-boot. Therefore you have to remember to disconnect the two external drives every time you want to reboot. That was a pain as well. And I actually did need some additional USB ports for other uses, having used up the ports on the computer. So I was delighted to see that not only does this have four ports and is designed to sit nicely on your desk next to your computer, but that each port has a switch next to it, so that you can turn it off and on even when it is still connected. Cooler still, when pressed, a blue LED lights up. This way of course I can keep all of these devices plugged in and simply hit the switch. It works perfectly, and is beautifully constructed and looks great. By the way, it also has another port on the side, specifically for charging. It’s a nice addition, though the other ports will charge devices as well. I’m not a big tech nerd, but I believe the difference is that the charge port may have a power limiter or fuse. Something honestly that is truly not a problem, unless you’re using the port to charge a power tool or a Toyota Echo! Nice to get something, as I said that meets if not exceeds expectations.
Review: Designed carefully to accommodate needs. - This usb hub is compact and very nice. I like the fact that the cord is attached on the shorter side because it allows me to place it right next to my laptop where my desk is very crowded. I’ve seen those that have cord coming out on the longer side, and I assume it takes up more space than it’s actual size. Anyhow, it’s been working great for the past 5months, and I like the idea of on/off feature on each port because I don’t have to pull it out completely just to turn it off where I’m going to use it very soon again anyways. I believe pulling it out does some wear on the hardware of the usb. It’s small enough and lightweight. Also, the ports are parallel to each other and not lined up in a series and I think it’s definitely a plus in a practical way because if the usbs were wider in its body size, they would be competing for space (even though there are more than one port you’d have to skip one or something) if the ports were lined up. That’s not a concern with this hub. Lastly, the charging port is fancy and I can just connect it for charging without worrying about it being actually connected to my computer. So far, it’s been great in doing what it’s supposed to do and I’m satisfied with it. I have not found a major fault in it so far. Would recommend to my friends and family.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Does anyone use the 5v port in the back?**
A: Most non-self-powered USB devices can power themselves from the lower amperage provided by the PC over USB. The more ports on the hub (with active devices), the more power is needed from the source (the PC or the wall plug). Devices will begin to struggle if there's lots of devices plugged in, or any high-power drawing devices, if the hub isn't powered by a good power supply. I think most PC USB ports put out 0.5 amps, or 1amp for the charging ports on newer machines. That gets distributed 4-ways with this 4-port hub, so if you have 4 devices pulling the power evenly, they would receive 0.125 (or 0.25) amps each. I think about 0.5 amps is what certain higher-end devices would require, like 1080p webcams and stuff. Typically mice and keyboards would be far less. Not all hubs give you the option to plug in a dedicated 5V plug. Many of the "powered" hubs, will also work without the plug, too, for smaller devices. This is nice because they sell it as a non-powered hub (which are typically less expensive) but you have that option to power it if you need it, without buying a new one. I can't tell from the pics what the plug is, but 5V is likely a micro USB plug, like you use for your phone. So you are likely to have one laying around already. The Samsung Galaxy S6 charger is a 2amp charger which should be more than enough for 4 devices.

**Q: I have a surface pro. When docked on the keyboard, the usb port is on the right hand upper side. Is the cord long enough so it won't be dangling? Thx.**
A: I do not have a surface pro. However the cord is approx. 62cm (24.5 inches or ~2 ft) long. Hope that helps. Maria

**Q: Does the main hub require the charger to work or just work better? Required for Charging port?**
A: The power adapter is optional. For faster charging and hard drive connection, you may need one power adapter.

**Q: does the charging port also work like a normal usb so i can use it for a wireless mouse/keyboard for example or does it ONLY charge?**
A: I'd say, although I've never used the "listed for charging" USB Port for a device. It would not work for a wireless mouse/keyboard. I can say this because when I have used that USB Port to charge my phone, when I plug the phone in, neither my computer or phone asks if I want to connect to the device. This and, if it was able to connect as a regular USB Port, I'm sure the MFG. would advertise it as an option..

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Awesome splitter/hub
*by J***X on January 18, 2019*

Seems well built. I'm supporting two Thrustmaster MFD I/O devices for my game (Falcon BMS) off of this hub/splitter and it works great. Also have an HP Desk Jet printer hanging off of this too, and all three items work fine. I like the lights combined with the ability to selectively put each port 'on" or 'off". It's not a plug-it-in-and-all-ports-are-stuck-"on" thing. You can decide to turn on/off individual ports. I imagine this would help for power and data signal flow. Cord length is sufficient. I wasn't planning on running it far from the back of my computer anyway, so cord length is not an issue for me. If anything, since I wanted to leave it on the back of my computer (the other devices' cords themselves reach the computer, I only wanted more ports) the long cord is actually a small annoyance to me ( I had to accordion fold the cord and zip tie it to make neat cable management). I would prefer if they market two versions of this device - a stubby cord a few inches long and a long cord say 6-8 feet - and let us choose which. But I'm just nitpicking here, this product is awesome and is 3.0 standard (or at least it's colored blue, I have to trust, I have no special equipment to test it). Great device, I recommend.
