Review: Nice light blade design I use for hunting field knife - Bought this after using Buck knives for years. Just wanted to try something new (really like my buck knives btw). Great price point, boxed nicely and comes with a nice sheath. Impressive sharpness out of box. I field dressed and skinned a whitetail this week. Worked very well, remained sharp and blade design allowed for accurate, smooth and safe cuts. Had no problems with smooth handle- I’m usually wearing gloves and not using a ton of force. Great design and price. Excellent field knife or an extra to have in the backpack. Would buy again. Or maybe even for my friends and family.
Review: Best bang for your buck! - Very nice knife for hunting fishing, camping or just to wear it’s a very attractive knife and extremely sharp it’s size is perfect for most uses but not so big it uncomfortable. I think this is spyderco’s best bang for the buck. You get a very durable sharp knife and a sheath.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: How well does this knife hold an edge?**
A: It's 8cr13mov that will be around 56HRC not a hard steel by any means, 8cr is not a high wear resistance steel.. Combine those two traits and edge retention will usable but that's about it.. Now with a thin blade stock and flat grind the edge geometry will make the knife feel as tho it's cutting OK even with a fairly dull blade so that's what I say 8cr in this case will give usable edge retention. It's cheap China made steel, its going to hold an edge like AUS8, 440c, 420A, 1040 and so on so long as the HRCs are similar (this knife will Rockwell at 55-57 with most being 56.x). 8cr is no longer an adequate steel even in a 40 dollar knife imho, you can get well done 14c28n knives for 30-40 dollars, good D2 for 30 to 40 bucks (and I mean well done D2 not crap like Efengrow fake D2 or if it is real its poorly heat treated making sharpening a nightmare, good D2 is not a hard steel to sharpen).. This knife should have been done in a 12c27 or 14c28n Sandvik and priced 40 to 50 bucks and it would have been an amazing knife at that price. Spyderco is my fav knife company by far, I love then Golden Co, Taiwan, Seki city Japan made knives and own over 15k worth of there production and Sprint run / Exclusives.. There China made stuff could be good entry knives key word COULD be, but not when it's in 8cr.. They need to change all their 8cr knives to 14c28n Sandvik (even if they add 5 to 10 to the price) heat treat it to 60-61 Rockwell C and then their China knives will be an amazing entry level knife in to thr world of Spydies. Thr China factory makes decent knives fit and finish wise, I just got two of their just released about 4 months ago Tenacious LW models in CPM S35vn and then are 100 bucks each, fit and finish is good, the heat treat or the S35vn is perfect on both of mine so they are around 60-61hrc (perfect for S35vn) the edge bevels are consistent all the way down the edge on both sides, blade finish is perfect, centering on one was perfect and the other I had to make a couple adjustments to get it perfect, action is great on both (as soon as I get any knife it comes apart, cleaned, washers polished, KPL lube is used and my edge is put on the knife before I ever use it) out the box, no blade play or lock rock.. It's a dang fine knife for 100 bucks and anyone that didn't know would assume it come from the Golden Co USA factory not China. So no IMHO if you plan to use the knife and expect the edge to hold up (8cr will strop back very quickly so long as you don't have chips or rolls in the edge so a leather strop will keep your edges apex shaving sharp for a while.) for any length of time this isn't the knife for you.. If you don't mind stropping the edge back after some use then 8cr can keep you cutting... If your cutting anything abrasive 8cr will NOT stand up to it very good at all. I know this is long, but trying to give detail of what to expect for newbi buyers. 8cr is only OK if you know what to expect from it, know how to sharpen knives and don't mind stropping the edge back a lot.

**Q: Where can I get a kydex sheath?**
A: There aren’t any third party ones made that I could find but you can buy kydex and make a sheath from YouTube pretty easily. Or send it to any custom Kydex holster maker but it’s gonna cost you twice what the knife costs

**Q: Is this a full tang knife?**
A: Yes it is full tang knife and very good slicer.

**Q: Anyone use it for fillet fishing**
A: It’s sharp as a razor so that will be no problem but the blade may not be as thin as most fillet knives so it may not be as flexible as you may like for that..

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Nice light blade design I use for hunting field knife

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Best bang for your buck!

Very nice knife for hunting fishing, camping or just to wear it’s a very attractive knife and extremely sharp it’s size is perfect for most uses but not so big it uncomfortable. I think this is spyderco’s best bang for the buck. You get a very durable sharp knife and a sheath.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very nice well crafted knife, great value
*by J***G on August 31, 2021*

Sharp, well designed, carefully manufactured with no obvious imperfections. It LOOKS great and interesting too, though there are better reasons to buy a knife like this. It should be great for camping and hunting (deer and smaller game). Food prep should be a breeze with this flat grind knife. Plenty of room for fingers below handle while slicing food flat on a cutting board. My only complaint is that the grip is a little too smooth, but the ergonomic shape of the "bag" handle should help a lot. You can use fine sandpaper if you wish to rough it up a little, but I'm going to use it more before I do anything to modify this well crafted knife with a great leather sheath.
