My boys love legos also but these building blocks are much easier for my younger children to learn before getting into the complex lego building sets. He can mix and match - being imaginative .. or just stick to building the set the way it comes. I love how each set has multi options. You get step by step directions for the first option and then just a photo of the second/third option. So my son has to pay attention to the picture and figure out for himself where and what he needs to build. So it does have some problem solving educational value. Review: A very nice toy but it requires an adult to help put together - This is our first Trio Building Block toy and I would recommend this with a few caveats. I will first say that this is NOT a building set that you can give to your 4-6 year old and expect them to build what they see on the box/picture...You will have to provide guidance and a little effort. The blocks themselves are made of fairly strong hard plastic which were pretty easy to connect vertically. However, some of the parts that needed to be connected horizontally will need a little adult muscle. With my help, we were able to get the batcave up and running in about 15 minutes - The final product was solid/firm and did not fall apart at the slightest touch. The set comes with a small Batman figure and Batmobile which is a really nice way to get their imagination going. I had previously purchased a Trio starter set that he loved and he's a huge Batman fan so I figured this was win-win. It is by far his favorite toy. He loves building and destroying it as well as trying to make the alternative builds - so it's fun and educational. It's durable and big enough that I don't have to worry about him choking on it. If I had to say one bad thing about it that would be only that it doesn't come with a container - we had to get a rubbermaid container to contain the pieces and book. I would highly recommend this product.
