## Description

A comic book cookbook with accessible ramen recipes for the home cook, from simple weeknight broths to weekend project stocks and homemade noodles, with recipe contributions and tips from notable ramen chefs. Playful and instructive, this hybrid cookbook/graphic novel introduces the history of ramen and provides more than 40 recipes for everything you need to make the perfect ramen at home including stocks, tares, and broths; noodles, toppings, and accompaniments. Authors Hugh Amano and Sarah Becan present colorful, humorous, and easy-to-follow comics that fully illustrate all the necessary steps and ingredients. Along the way, they share preparation shortcuts that make weeknight ramen a reality; provide meaty tidbits on Japanese culinary traditions; and feature words of wisdom, personal anecdotes, and cultural insights from ramen chefs and luminaries like Ivan Orkin and Brian MacDuckston of Ramen Adventures . Recipes include broths like Shio, Shoyu, Miso, and Tonkotsu, components such as Onsen Eggs, Chashu, and Menma, and offshoots like Mazemen, Tsukemen, and Yakisoba. Perfect for beginners, seasoned cooks, and armchair cooks alike, this comic book cookbook is an accessible, fun, and inviting introduction to one of Japan's most popular dishes.

Review: A beautiful looking cookbook and so much more practical than standard cookbooks - I was so upset when I couldn’t get hold of this as it went out of stock a couple of weeks ago. So, as soon as it was back in stock, I didn’t hesitate to buy it! My eldest teenage son discovered Raman this year and has been constantly making it ever since! As he’s looking at getting ready to move out, I wanted to get him a cookbook as such, but not your standard one that he would never pick up and use. He's a former anime and graphic novel fan, so I just knew that this would be a perfect present for him. The book is of such high-quality and each page is just gorgeously illustrated and captioned. Best of all, the presentation more than encourages you to have a go yourself. I can’t rate this highly enough – if only all cookbooks could be as fun and as accessible as this!
Review: Something a little different for a cookbook - I saw the physical book of this in a shop but got the Kindle version on sale. It's a bit different to have a cookbook in the style of a comic book. The drawing style isn't too complex (not anime) but the food still looks good and the actual content is serious enough. Don't think because it's a comic that it's not proper recipes or discussion about ramen. This weekend I followed the recipe for making proper tonkotsu broth in a pressure cooker. Proper tonkotsu involves boiling various unattractive piggy bits for 10hrs+ but the pressure cooker scales it down and brings the time down too. The resultant broth was meaty and creamy and tasted pretty authentic to me (an enthusiastic home cook/J-foodie but no professional). I enjoyed reading it like a comic book and will be returning to it like a cookbook. I also bought the authors' similar comic book on Dumplings.

This cookbook is a bit of fun for anyone that loves a comic book. A gift for my brother who love Japan and its cuisine, the book has great illustrations for each recipe.
