Here, the author looks at life through another perspective, in the uniforms that are worn, and the varying levels of discipline and responsibility that comes with each. It is written in everyday language, and is very easy to relate to for anyone who grew up in the "baby boomer" generation. I could easily see myself in many of the situations described in the book. The latter part of the book told, in graphic detail, of a young man becoming a Marine, and the horrors that came along with that uniform, back in the days of Viet Nam. It is a story that still needs to be heard, and the author tells it like it was. I would recommend this book to anyone who grew up in that era, as a chance to look back and reflect on their own life. I would also recommend it to the generations since then, to give them a glimpse at what it was like growing up "in the 60's", and an idea as to why those of us who did are apt to be so set in our ways. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ As a Vietnam-era Veteran the nuances in David's book are ... *by C***G on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on September 7, 2015* As a Vietnam-era Veteran the nuances in David's book are first-hand and not some account by some Washington scofflaw with a bug up their behinds. The reasons for the insanity that was Vietnam and how it feels to be of that era with the catcalls, denigration and so on. Those days shaped our perceptions as lucidly as a pinprick to the finger. Sadly too many today have no idea of what happened, why it happened and why so many veterans are jaded about the war. One thing we are sure of, are our buddies who had to live through and it was a markedly different time in the world. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Mr. Duchesneau authored an enjoyable and interesting book, his first in a series of three. *by T***R on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on February 27, 2014* I gave Dave's first book, UNIFORMS, a 5 star rating. Also being a baby-boomer, I enjoyed & laughed at many of his early life experiences, but also felt the remorse of a son's lack of love and attention from his dad... a tough and at times, unfriendly SOB. In everyday language-Dave walks us through his important and impressionable teenage years, and then into Marine boot camp and the Vietnam conflict. I did not serve in Vietnam, so I learned much about what it was like to be a soldier, scared a lot, tough & mean, thorough, and really "felt" what he experienced while there. I recommend you read this book.
