Hooked a continuity tester to it and it showed circut closed then set a magnet 1/8" in front still closed?** A: It needs a strong magnet for pick up. And will need to be closer then a 1/8". They sent the install instructions (see attached). However, I could never get it to work with the ELING tachometer. I tried sensing vanes on the alternator and adding a magnet to the water pump. I do not have access to a "transmitting gear" on my engine (MerCruiser 4.3L V6). I am going to design a spark plug wire transmitter to see if that works.
