The D3O version uses an extra layer of impact absorption material called D30 which is placed on the tailbone. **Q: It this pad bulky? Do I need a pair of bigger size snow pants to fit this pad in? If I wear this pad in my normal size snow pants, will it be tight?** A: Depending on how you wear your snow pants you may need to go a size bigger. The pad is not too bulky but it does add an inch or two to your bum area. I can fit in a size small in snowboarding pants but I always buy a size medium as I like my clothes loose fitting. I will just wear a belt/tighten the waist of my pants. Therefore, I personally do not need to buy a size bigger for me to use the AzzPad. If you wear pants that are already snug or fit perfectly on you, I would recommend going a size bigger. **Q: I wear size 33" waist pants. If I am wearing thin poly thermals under these also, should I buy a medium or large size in these shorts?** A: I do not think this should affect the size of the Azzpadz. I am waist 32 and I bought the large size which I feel fits a little loose, but I do not think that if I was wearing a thin termal under it, it would change much of how it already fits. **Q: Do these cover above the belt line, or do they stay below the belt? I want to know how high up the back/spine they protect.** A: The pad covers below the belt line for me. This was the case for me. Last week I was learning to ride my EUC and I had a simple fall that had me landing squarely on my buttocks. (I literally fell flat on my butt). From the perspective of the outside world, it was something simple and comical at that. However for me, it was quite a different story, The sudden compression sent shock waves throughout up my spine and resulted in me being pretty much immobilized for a few minutes. I laid there contemplating life itself as I pondered how something so basic could hurt so bad. After about a weeks time my body was back to it's normal self but the confidence in riding was gravely destroyed. I set out to rebuild my confidence by purchasing this piece of safety gear.It arrived quickly and I suited up. It looks like a diaper when viewed from the outside world so I just tuck it into my pants and it's barely noticeable. You might come out looking like you have a little rump in your pants but if you find yourself in a sports type environment or doing something that could land you on your tail end. You will appreciate knowing it's there when you need it.On the third day of owning it, I had an opportunity to test it out. I fell on my butt, this time it wasn't squarely on my rear but more to the side. I immediately got up as if nothing happened. Later on that night I still have a mild tenseness (more from the sudden sharp contraction of my abdominal muscles as I braced for the incoming impact) but by the next morning, I feel like nothing ever happened.I think in time, as you find yourself taking hit after hit wearing this, you will develop the confidence in knowing that you don't have to be afraid of when you will find yourself in that situation and when you reach that point, you will find that you are no longer tense in the fall and you will just gracefully recover.Don't be like me and purchase this after you realize you needed it. If you are doing anything that is balance related or can result in a fall, do your tailbone, spine and rear end a favor and get this because when your brain is telling your body to do something, your back is ultimately in charge of allowing or not allowing those messages to get through. There is no more horrifying feeling then your brain telling your body to do something and your body simply just ignoring the message.
