    Finally

*by M***A on Reviewed in the United States on February 25, 2014*

first review ever. I'm writing this based on my needs. My needs:Super comfortableNoise Isolationquality sound. Not having to blast the volume to get some sound.portable.I'm no expert so, take this review from someone who cares less about all the technical terms.Saying that I love music pointless because everyone loves music.I am a currently a pre med and I am at the library for long hours. Because my ears are so sensitive I can't stand ear buds, I've tried many and never worn headphones because I get horrible headaches after 20 minutes of use.So for a long while I never took my headphones anywhere simply because of the reasons stated above.I've owned both dre beats studio and studio pros, I've had a variety of earbuds, and some hand me down headphones from my brother who is a sound engineer. When him for advice he simply stated "you'll know within the first 5 minutes." Fair enough. To say the least I have either sold all my headphones or they are sitting in my closet. They are just too uncomfortable after using them for a short period of time. When it comes to sound, I truly believe that the Studio pros are without a doubt my favorites, but they feel like a heavy vice on my head after 4 minutes. Three weeks ago I decided that I will find the headphones that fit my needs and hell or high water I was going to find them.I started to purchase the sennheiser series.I figured I start with the seen HD 558, even though my brother is a sound engineer I never knew what "open backs" were. Right off the bat, the sound quality was "eh" at best. I needed something that I could wear in the library without disturbing anyone and that I don't need to blast in order to hear my music. To me the sound quality was flat, in my personal opinion. Although lightweight and comfortable, the construction was flimsy and I my ears started to hurt after 15 minutes. So I shipped them back to amazon. As I shipped them off I decided to spend some more money to get what I wanted. The Senn PXC 450 was on my next list so ordered a pair and when I got them I was somewhat impressed. The construction seemed flimsy and the active noise canceling was super annoying. High pitch frequencies would enter the the cups and annoying vibrations from loud a loud surrounding would interrupt my music. On my Macbook pro 15, I had to blast these headphones in order to get a descent volume. That is my biggest gripe of the pac 450. For the price, I should not have to blast my music to get a descent volume. The sound was mediocre at best. After 20 minutes, I packed them up and processed a return on amazon.I was going to order a pair of the Bose QC15, however I refrained from doing so since they were most compared to the seen PXC450 and according to "audiophiles."After reading good reviews of AudioTechnica I purchased the ATH M50xl and the ATH, ANC9.Agains this is based on my personal preference. I didn't like the feel of the M50, they are too clunky and the sound was a little better then the senns, but not what I was looking for. The ANC9s were in my opinion, subpar at best. The three noise canceling options was ridiculous and the construction was flimsy.back to amazon they go.After some heavy studying, my brother sent me a link to then NAD Viso HP50.I didn't read much about them, but for some reason I had a good feeling about them. The construction seemed very streamlined and simple. I always find that the best products are the simplest in form. I saw a youtube video of someone who was demonstrating the durability and flexion of the headphones.Into my amazon shopping cart they go.As soon as I put these on, I knew they were going to be "the one". Like slipping your feet into a pair of good running shoes, your body just tells you "these are it."I plugged them into my Macbook and right away the difference in sound compared to the rest of the headphones I purchased. They still don't sound as good as the Beats Pro Studios (in my opinion), but they are perfect in every way for the price and comfort and sound quality. I didn't have to raise the volume to max to hear my music enjoyably. At level 4 volume I am perfectly isolated from my environment in the library, even in a super busy and noisy coffee shop. I am in my own world with these headphones. I love a variety of music and when I want to hear some hip hop, the bass punches just perfectly. When I need some classical music, or some classic jazz and blues, I am relaxed an loving the music.Super lightweight, even my wife loves to wear them and she hates headphones. I love the design and construction. So simple, yet sleek and appealing.I am very happy with these headphones and I am a new fan of NAD. What a superb job with these headphones and thank you!I don't mind spending the money for something as long as it fits my needs, and these fit my needs to a "T."

Good sound spoiled by poor design

I sold my Shure SRH 940’s to try something different and was intrigued by all the positive reviews and praise these have received. I was hoping it would be an upgrade and it some ways it was but more of a downgrade for my sonic and fit preferences. The HP50 does have a very liquid and effortless sonic character with nice dark space between the notes and instruments. The highs are a bit rolled off but the overall presentation offers enough clarity that it’s only a minor annoyance. My only real complaint with the sound is that they seem somewhat lacking in dynamics. Going through a variety of genres including artists such as Pink Martini, Brad Paisley, Hilary Hahn, Eilen Jewell, Lorde, Rob Zombie, Ella Fitzgerald, Merle Haggard, Imelda May, and many others, I found the HP50 to be unexciting or somewhat flat in rendering the dynamic crescendo’s, decrescendo’s, that is typical of the tracks I used to demo and am familiar with in other headphones and speakers. The deal killer here is the fit and design. Like the Shure SRH940’s NAD has this terrible flat headband design that instead of following the natural curve of a human head was clearly created for Frankenstein’s square shaped. The result is preasure unevenly distributed and centered on your heads high point. Additionally the insufficient clamping design that impacts the bottom of each ear cup creates a terrible seal that regardless of adjustments I’ve made has significant changes to the SQ every time I turn my head.At the end of the day I found the HP50 to be a neutral headphone with an enjoyable sound signature albeit uninvolving, with design issues that impact sound and comfort to the point of defeat. These are heading back unfortunately and I will continue my search. In the past I have owned the Denon D7000 (enjoyed but mids were a bit recessed and lows were too bloated), HD800 (too picky on source and amp), LCD-3 (loads of fun with the right tubes, very few complaints), and many others I won’t bore readers with listing but to say that cost to fun factor the Grado PS500 (with reversed bowls) was the most fun and engaging to listen to. Unfortunately I need something sealed for a very quiet office environment.
