JMR sent me an email a day before the unit arrived saying in part, " Thank you for the purchase ... if you are experiencing problems or are unsatisfied with our product, contact us." I did exactly that the day after I received the faulty unit. Four days later a new thermometer arrived. The new unit is everything that I was expecting. The touch screen runs easily through the menu of various meats and allows the user to select from well done to rare. If you are a soup maker, soap maker or baker, the PROGRAM choice will allow you to customized the temperature setting for your endeavors.I chose this unit originally because other products that had a cable that was primarily silicone tended to fray and come apart at stress points. Our son has gone through two such thermometers in the past five years. This product's stainless steel cable appears to me to be more robust at those points. Time will tell.Finally, I'm impressed with JMR Products as a company. When you look to the product site on Amazon, they state that the buyer must be 100% satisfied with this thermometer or they will make it right to you.They certainly did for me. When I tried to set up the kickstand, which was attached to the battery cover, the battery cover routinely popped off when I set it on the counter. Testing temperatures against an IR gun thermometer and a stick-probe thermometer showed the temperatures about +6°F off.
