Very dry and good mosquito shelter, Minor fabric rip

Worked in some weather and locations better than others: roof tarp worked well in rain, did not drip through tarp, keep us and gear dry. However, pockets of rain water collected at tarp's low corners which we used for cooking and drinking. What these collected pockets of water would do in wind gust would be interesting to Beta Test. In our rain events the bug mesh screen prevented rain from blowing into shelter, likely due to surface tension: the droplets of rain just clung to the Screen mesh. Once again, it would have been interesting to test this in a gusty rain storm. The ridge ends have 3 way zippers making this shelter handy for hammock camping. These zippers functioned well but if your camp is limited to a tight suspension between trees it could make entry / exit a squeeze. The bottom of the screen would blow off the ground allowing bugs to enter in-mass, even when all stakes loops were secured; so our field modification was to suspend the ridge lower, and create a strip of screen materal at ground level to be covered with rocks and logs: this anchored the bottom of the screen walls: preventing breezes from lifting the screen walls off the ground. However, lowering the tarp ridge made it impossible for tall members of our camp to stand erect but we could sit and crouch mosquito/fly free. The ridge grommet rings fabric ripped on second use but was still functionable so it didn't leave us without shelter in a wilderness area. However, we were not sure how long it was to last so the shelter was returned to Amazon without drama.

Test the weatherproofing if you have the time before your first camp out.

The screen was easy to set up, and kept out the bugs. Only one problem, and that was the weatherproof tarp — it leaked badly. I should have tested it first but had no time. I contacted the seller and this was supposed to have been a well rated rain shelter. They offered to replace the unit, or defray cost of a decent weatherproofing product. I opted to get the weatherproofer and just do it myself. This worked out well the product that they recommended is Nikwax solarproof. It went on easy and I’ve now got a weatherproof screen shelter. Thanks to the Outland support folks for recommending the Nikwax. All in all, I’m happy with this purchase.

    100% Yes!

The tent was absolutely perfect for our needs. We are BWCAW backpackers, so we needed the lighter weight, but we trailed this tent at a campground. We were camping with about 15 other families, and although there were 7 large, hard-frame screen tents in our group, ours was the one folks tended to congregate under. It had a full-sized picnic table inside, a few coolers along the edge, and at night, we pulled four bikes inside as well. Ours was the 12x12' version, but it sure feels a lot larger than that inside. Two things to note:Two opposing corners are designed to be much higher than the other two opposing corners. Like an A-frame chalet house, it makes a roof that slants down on both sides. The higher corners are so tall, my 5'9" height had to stand on a short stump in order to tie a light to the "ceiling" there. At the same time, I had to duck down to get all the way into the lower corners. THE SCREEN NETTING IS SHORTER ON THE CORNERS DESIGNED TO BE LOWER, so you can't "outsmart" this design. It's made that way for water run-off.You NEED to attach the higher corners to trees. Stakes in the ground will not provide sufficient tension. It just won't work. We used stakes on the lower corners. When the wind really picked up (20+mph), we dragged a picnic table over to secure one of the lower corner ropes, because the tent desperately wanted to be a parachute. This tent is built TOUGH. No amount of wind was going to hurt it. It just needs to be secured properly.
