I have searched for a long time to find a good quality affordable machine and this ticks the box. I tried another brand before this and the other brand felt cheap and plastic like, so I returned it. This Bernette is very good quality; solid yet lightweight and I love it. It comes with a comprehensive manual, plenty of accessories and is very easy to use. Good idea to test it out using scrap fabric to get a feel for how much pressure to use. **Q: Is the needle able to move right and left?** A: The needle moves left and right when using zigzag etc, but has only one position unlike the old Bernina which had a choice of 3 needle positions. On opening the box it was very well packaged. Set the machine up with an open mind I do patchwork quilts. Set to on testing all the stitches and the tension was perfect. Time to put it to the real test quilting one of my quilts. Quilt top batting and backing back stitched and was perfect full length sewing perfect. I expected it to move with vibration but even with my foot pedal fully down at high speed no vibration or movement of the machine. Quilted perfect with normal foot didn't have to use walking foot nice even straight stitches. Very good machine for the money.
