The place we bought this from had a couple of diodes in the circuit that were being used solely for their voltage drop to get the voltage from the battery down to 12 volts. That seemed hacky to me and was unreliable. I connected the input of this voltage regulator to the load output of my solar controller then connected the output of the voltage regulator to the input of the fence energizer (well actually through an on/off switch first but conceptually the same). The energizer is quite happy with the 12 volts this regulator is putting out. You need to install a switch when it is not in use. I just bought a 36v Golf cart and the batteries were dropping voltage when sitting. Come to find out the reducer was draining battery voltage even when there was no accessories on. **Q: Will this work to protect a 12v to 12v battery charger if mounted between a 12vdc (20.48v actual out put) generator and the charger? All on a 8a fuse.** A: The regulator is not performing as advertised . If the power is kept below 25 volts then it works fine but at 30 volts it acts like an SCR has fired and shorts out the PS , some form of current shunting occurs . Honda 4 magnet flywheel roters can gen. a little higher voltage .2 magnet flywheel such as on a Kawasaki 12 hp or similar may gen lower voltages . You must us a dc input ,rectified and filtered . **Q: Can i send 12v ac as an input or does the input need to be dc?** A: DC only. This is a DC-DC converter. I have only had it for a few days so can't speak to its longevity but so far so good. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Works great *by G***. on August 6, 2024* This was used on a FIRST Robotics Competition robot to power a mini PC for vision processing. There are significant voltage drops due to the 8 motors powering the drivetrain and this would cause the PC to drop offline during competition matches. When testing this module offline it put out a consistent 12.25V with input voltage ranging from 13V all the way down to about 3V which is well below the claimed minimum of 8V. Our robot voltage drops to about 10V during matches and this past weekend our mini PC consistently stayed online during several dozen matches.
