Dimming is accomplished by pulse width modulation, i.e. the fraction of time that the color’s pin is grounded. Hue PWM repetition rate is 1,000Hz IIRC. The Philips Hue control for the Lightstrip Plus is supplied with a 24v DC 20W (0.8A) power supply with a coaxial plug .5.5mm OD 2.1mm ID. The Philips control senses the current loading of the control and re-scales brightness to avoid drawing more than ~18W (0.75A) from the power supply at maximum brightness when additional LED strip extensions are added. Earlier generations of the Hue Lightstrip plus control box had a JST-PH 1.5 connector and an adapter cable to reach the strip’s JST-PH 2.0 connector.
