My daughter has toted it around back and forth in her backpack. It is durable. The sound can be on or off. (I like that feature.) I also love the different levels it provides. It has provided my daughter with a mental math warm up before she takes her timed math tests in school. I need to stress that this is for school-age children. This is similar to a child learning flashcards. It isn't a 'fun', interactive, points, next level game/toy. Ideas for this item's use: -have a child use this when you can not practice math flash cards with them; -have teachers use it as a learning station during school; -use with older individuals with stroke/dementia; -great mind exercise. ***UPDATE***: I keep seeing this minute math device get poor reviews. It is designed to go quickly just like the timed tests the kids have to take in school. Many classrooms still do the quick 1-2 minute math drill test at the beginning of the day. **Q: I would like to drill a student on the 3 times table only.  And not with a missing number.  Just, for example, 3x4, 3x8, etc.  Is this possible?  How?**
A: No. You only can do multiplication/division with a missing number. You can control the difficulty but not the specific numbers.

**Q: Does it for sure have an untimed feature?**
A: Hello Cordelia....I don't understand your question.  The Minute Math electronic flash card states that it has three skill levels.  I am not sure how the item is played because it is sealed. It requires 3 AAA batteries & it is used to practice addition, subtraction,multiplication & division. I hope that this is helpful...Jen

**Q: What ages range is this for?**
A: That would depend upon the child.  For most it would be grades 1 to 4 or 5 since it has addition and subtraction and then multiplication and division.  Early learners might do the addition before school and those with challenges learning could use it as extra practice at any age. . . Our 12 year old daughter with some learning issues is still enjoying it.

Rather than learning math facts through drill and practice flashcards, this is a different method for teaching the fact 'families'. Each child learns differently. This concept of teaching kids to look at the entire fact, rather than just the sum is better for some kids. This it not a 'toy', but kids do have fun with it. My daughter has toted it around back and forth in her backpack. It is durable. The sound can be on or off. (I like that feature.) I also love the different levels it provides. It has provided my daughter with a mental math warm up before she takes her timed math tests in school. I need to stress that this is for school-age children. I got this for my school aged children (ages 6-12). The different levels allow everyone to play at their own ability. It is fun to challenge one another to see who can get the most in the timed games; it is excellent practice for mastering basic math facts for the younger kiddos (or the older kiddos who might still struggle). I've even found myself challenging my kids to a game here and there! The sounds can get a bit annoying, but they can also be disabled so it would be fun in a waiting room or other public place without being a nuisance. Get one of these! They're so fun!

"MINUTE MATH" ELECTRONIC FLASHCARD... PRO'S: DURABLE, FUN, EDUCATIONAL. IN THAT ORDER! CON'S: THE MINUTE MATH DOES "NOT" ALLOW YOUR CHILDREN TO DO SETS OF ANY PARTICULAR NUMBER! THE PROBLEMS ARE AT RANDOM! THE TIME TO ANSWER A PROBLEM, IS TOO LIMITED, FOR CHILDREN JUST LEARNING THEIR MULTIPLICATION/DIVISION TABLES. (HAVEN'T USED IT FOR ADD/SUBTRACTION, BUT IT'S PROBABLY THE SAME) THIS IS A GOOD ITEM, IF YOUR CHILDREN ALREADY KNOW THEIR TABLES PRETTY WELL, AND JUST WANT TO BRUSH-UP &/OR, GET FASTER.
