It is exactly what I wanted! It really is more of a wine color..think a lighter color Cabernet. I've had many down comforters over the years and I agree with the comment about being the BEST comforter. It is very similar to one I owned years ago that I literally wore out. This is very lightweight, more like a down blanket. Better for us, we don't like the feeling of being weighed down, plus the toes hurt as you get older.But, down comforters can absolutely be machine washed. Use cold water, a little fabric softener and be sure to dry with a tennis ball or two to fluff. Laundromat dryers are better because they are bigger and gives the comforter more room to move around and fluff. Another tip is, to make the most of the insulating properties, when you put your comforter on your bed, if your bedroom is away from your thermostat, open your bedroom window (the colder the better), shut the bedroom door and air the comforter for several hours. You will be amazed how much even a lightweight down will loft. Sleeping under it, I feel like there is nothing there, but I don't get cold. I like the striped brown pattern, and the coverage on my king-size bed is excellent. The fill has stayed in place, though I have not washed it yet, so that may change. One drawback for which I removed one star is that this comforter sheds tiny feathers.
