If not, can you recommend something that I could use to effectively clean sand substrate?** A: Sand is triple work then gravel which I clean daily. You need to gently siphon debris off the top then stir the sand up really well letting it settle for a few minutes and siphon again. Repeat with water changes, repeat again and pow the most beautiful tank you have ever seen. It doesn't come with a filter guard inside of the tube so, be careful with small fish or debris that you don't want to go thru the tube or the hose. The price is ok. It is a quality siphon.
