I had to move the dial to 3 or 4 white marks ABOVE the green zone to get 180 - 185. Thank you for your input.** A: There's a range for brewing green teas as you know. I had to go backwards 3 stops to get the 180 that I was looking for. That's 3 clicks lower than the top of the green tea range. **Q: Is there a steeping basket in the kettle? Is it plastic?** A: No, there is no steeping basket. This kettle is for heating water to appropriate temperature to pour into teapot or mug for steeping tea. Just like a stove-top kettle to boil water, only this one sits on your counter and has a thermostat to heat water to a desired remperature. There are no plastic parts in contact with the water. The kettle itself is metal. The only plastic parts are the base (which sits on the counter, contains the electric components and plugs into the wall), the teapot lid, handle, and temperature dial. I have had it fir a couple months and LOVE it. I previously had two plastic electric kettles, one after the other, each of them died, and this one is so far superior I can't brag enough about it. **Q: where is it made** A: Thanks for answering. I never knew where it was made. Googled and found out it was the best heater for the price. Love using it. **Q: Does "concealed heating element" mean that the liquid never touches the heating element?** A: Yes. At no point does the water touch the heating element. The bottom of the water chamber inside of the kettle is over an inch away from the bottom of the actual kettle, and the heating element is sealed there in the space between, in a totally separate chamber. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars Far More Pros Than Cons *by C***8 on Reviewed in the United States on June 28, 2019* bought the 1.7-Liter Cuisinart online. It served us very well for a long time but recently began to fail - taking an extraordinarily time to get really hot but never reaching a true rolling boil.Realizing a much smaller kettle would work very well for us, we began the search for one that would fill most, if not of all our requirements including a setting for various temperatures. Strangely, no matter how many searches we did on Amazon using different combinations of terms - 1 liter electric kettle or small electric kettle + variable temperature, or keep warm feature, glass, steel, no plastic etc. etc. etc. The only small kettles that came close were the gooseneck ones for pour over coffee - not a feature that either of us were keen on. However, my husband stumbled on the 30 oz. utiliTEA quite by accident on someone's list of the five best electric kettles. Luckily they included a link to this apparently well hidden gem on Amazon.How ever do other people find this kettle?Anyway we received it three or four days ago and have already used it several times. Obviously I cannot speak to longevity, but here are the Pros and Cons as I see them.PROSUnbelievably fast: I read a couple of reviews that mentioned how fast this kettle boiled water, but was quite certain the accounts had to be a wee bit exaggerated. Surely nothing could possibly heat water that quickly (even in its heyday the Cuisinart certainly didn't). How wrong I was. The Adagio brings two cups of water to a boil in just two minutes - give or take a few seconds.Rolling Boil: Not only is this kettle lightning fast, it brings the water to a rolling boil (read vigorous agitation) which is absolutely essential to bring out the flavor of black tea. A lesser temperature will give you liquid that vaguely resembles tea but is more like dishwater. (The other essential being to steep the tea for 4.5 to 5 minutes which is where a tea pot and cosy come in handy). The only other tea we drink on a regular basis it Green Tea and somewhere in the middle of the 'green zone' works perfectly.Attractive: Although this is a matter of individual taste I find the kettle quite attractive. It's small, and doesn't take up much of my almost non existent counter. I like the handle too - it is both comfortable and rather pleasingly shaped.CONSFlimsy: The kettle is very lightweight (which some may consider a plus) - almost as if you are handling a toy. Perhaps I was just used to the heavy Cuisinart. Also I think the user would have to be gentle with the fragile looking clear plastic on switch in the back (it even looks out of place against the steel and dark grey). I wish they had used the same grey material that the handle is made of. (as a precaution I don't allow the lid to flip upward when I open it but use my left hand to slow it down slightly).The Electrical Cord: I realize the cord is heavy duty, but the only space I have for the kettle is right next to an outlet. So what to do with the cord? It neither wraps in the base, nor retracts. Additionally it is so stiff that it is difficult to roll up and secure with some kind of tie - although this is exactly what we have done which has left us with a substantial 'loop' taking up counter space.No Keep Warm Function: I shall miss this when I am cooking and want hot water to immediately add to a dish that is in danger of drying up and sticking. Oh well! I shall use my stove top kettle instead. Its not a deal breaker for me.Doesn't Beep: When the water is ready. You have to listen for the sound of it shutting off.All in all I am very pleased with this kettle and hope it lasts a very long time. To try and avoid any staining rusting issues (neither of which should happen with good stainless steel) we always shake the pot upside down over the sink after pouring out the water we need. Boils water fast and reliably, which is really all I care about, but as a bonus it has a little temperature dial to switch between boiling and not-quite-boiling (for delicate teas). I don't require that my water be an exact temperature, nor do I require an LED readout with which to set a temperature; it's obvious that in the "green" zone that the water isn't quite at boiling, and in the "orange" it's at a rolling boil. If that's enough to satisfy your needs, and you're cool with a kettle that's lacking a whole bunch of swanky features that are probably going to break within a year anyway, this is the only kettle you'll ever need.A couple of other things; no weird aftertastes or bad experiences with the filter. The window on the side is plastic, I'm assuming BPA-free. The heating element is not directly exposed to the water (there's just a flat surface at the bottom; very easy to clean with a dish brush). There's a fine mesh filter across the spout that seals in the interior, keeping dust out. The lid opens expansively to allow easy refilling and cleaning. I've rarely cleaned mine because I only put purified water in, so there's very little buildup over time. It's on one of those any-direction swivel bases so it doesn't matter what direction it's facing and easily pops on and off the base, which is heavy enough to hold its place. 3' cord, heavy duty. Solid handle, won't slip out of your hands. Need more? Okay, it's small. So many kettles out there are gigantic, and when your kitchen only serves one or two people on a daily basis, 30oz is plenty; that's tons of water. This kettle is a great size for a compact kitchen when space is at a premium, or a big kitchen when you want the best electric kettle that exists. Seriously, do a search for "utilitea kettle", there are articles written by people about how this is the best kettle ever (and that's how I found out about it).I'm on my second of these kettles now. Why the second? The first one lasted me four whole years of frequent duty. What's frequent duty? Coming up to a boil on average four times a day every day for four years (I drink a lot of tea, okay?). Doggedly, faithfully, relentlessly for four years, which in this day and age is I think nothing short of fantastic for a kitchen appliance (barring a Kitchenaid stand mixer, but those things are indestructible), particularly one that's this inexpensive (oh yeah, that's another plus). I was crushed when my first passed away, beyond my electrical ability to fix, but my second is up and running like a champ.
