Two rubber gaskets come with the stone to keep it in place when in use. Knife sharpening is not something I do everyday so I have not yet used this with a variety of blades. However, it seems to be everything that I want or need to keep my good carbon and stainless blades maintained and sharpened. If you have an investment in good knives it makes sense to invest in a fine stone that will not damage them. There has been some redesigning since I made my original purchase where the logo was moved to the side (huge plus) and the fitment of the rubber holder and bamboo base is much better. It also now includes an angle guide for your knives. Overall, the product is MUCH better now and the customer service is great.Old Post - First off, I did NOT receive this product at a discount for an unbiased review. Who are you people fooling? The second you received a discount, you're already biased.I have two problems with this product: 1.) The 1000 grit side has the brand name embeded into it. You can tell it is a different type of material than the rest of the orange grit and it "feels" different when you are sliding a cutting edge over it. It feels like the areas where the letters are are not as effective as the rest of the stone surface. 2.) The stone actually grows in size when you soak it in water. When you try to place it back in the bamboo tray in the rubber seat, it doesn't fit! When I did try to fit it into the tray, the bamboo split.All that being said, it did sharpen and hone my blades just fine. It's just sad to see all of these "unbiased" reviews on here.
