    Only one of its kind

*by P***R on Reviewed in the United States on July 2, 2019*

TBH, I have never liked study bibles since I do not believe in mingling GOD's words with men's words. But I simply had to get this bible since it is the ONLY bible out there that had the words of the LORD in red in the Old Testament. It comes in a nice shade of red and the print is very legible since it is a giant print edition. However, It is a squarish size behemoth and would be a lot lighter if it had not included the Treasury of Biblical Info. As such, the bible flops easily when you hold it up with one hand. Being a value edition, there is no gilding on the pages. The bible is printed in Korea (not China) which is nice to know. Given its squarish size, it was a challenge to find a decent bible cover case to protect it.Overall, still pleased with this bible. Hopefully, the publisher can consider a version of this bible without all the study helps and notes. Yes, just the pure Word of GOD will do!!

A GREAT BIBLE (and it may get even better!)

As a high school teacher licensed in English, History, and Special Ed, I would like to say a word about the KJV with Apocrypha and its role in today's culture.Since the Reformation, Anglicanism has always been the state religion of England. In 1611, during the reign of James I, the Anglicans created the famous bible that now bears his name. It was published with a special purpose in mind. James hoped it would keep the peace among his subects. The years before 1611 were full of religious tension. The Roman Catholic Church had been abolished in England and was only allowed to exist in secret. Meanwhile, Protestants of various shades were becoming increasing strident. They wanted an English bible, and they wanted it to include plenty of notes that upheld their own positions. Not content to wait for the official Church, these Protestants began publishing their own translations. A good example is their Geneva Bible. The new KJV did have many notes to help the reader--but they were not controversial notes. Chapter headings gave information without trying to radicalize anyone. As we know, the new bible was a big hit! Soon, even the most extreme Protestants accepted it--but they insisted on removing the Apocrypha. Most Englishmen have always belonged to the Established Church, the church that DID want the Apocrypha included between the Old and New Testaments. Yet, for hundreds of years, "normal editions" of the KJV did not include these books. Even the original publishers, Oxford and Cambridge Universities, sold "Apocrypha-free" bibles. The universities did, of course, continue to offer the "real McCoy" to the few churches and scholars who demanded it. But the price was very high. Incredible as it sounds, the REAL KJV was eventually confined to Anglican churches, where it was set-up on an impressive display stand (a lecturn) and used for formal readings in worship. Even ministers didn't own copies of the real KJV!A trip to the local book store confirms that the KJV with Apocrypha is still quite rare. That is a great pity, for today such a bible is important in three ways.(1) A Cultural Icon. The KJV counts as a monument of English literature. Even in the public schools, the KJV is included in English textbooks. Using the KJV is a way to show loyalty to English history and culture.(2) Nostalgia & Official Use. The KJV with Apocrypha is still the "real Bible" for a few people, especially those who are displeased with the modern Episcopal Church. In the first place, it is the version they grew up with. They remember how the KJV was displayed magnificently on a beautiful brass lecturn and how the lay readers would nervously prepare to read from it, fearful of tripping over a Jacobean tongue-twister. Furthermore, many of these people (including myself) now belong to traditional Anglican churches which use KJV / Apocrypha as the official Bible. The Kindle edition is wonderful for them because they can finally afford a "real KJV" of their own.(3) A Novelty: Proof that there are still some surprises left in the old KJV. Points one and two above only apply to ex-Episcopalians. After all, a Baptist or Presbyterian motivated by culture or nostalgia will not want the Apocrypha. He will want the "regular" KJV. However, some Protestants might buy this Kindle version as a curiosity. In fact, Thomas Nelson Bible Publishing Co. now offers a reproduction of the 1611 edition! But it is not suitable for actual use. These bibles don't have the letter J, and the lower case S looks like an F. Sometimes "u" becomes a "v." Naturally, this edition costs as much as any other hard back book. Some members of the target group for the 1611 reproductions might settle for a Kindle KJV with Apocrypha since it only costs $2.00. One publisher actually offers a 1611 reproduction for about $1500. Madness!Although this Kindle Edition of the bible was published with a few mistakes in it, most or all of them have now been fixed. I heartily reccomend this Bible and hope it will meet with the sucess it deserves!
