Watery like even after stirring. Is this normal?** A: No, it shouldn't be watery. It should be slightly thick, silky and one color. The top layer can be watery at first but blends into a thicker paint when stirred thoroughly. If the can is more than a year or two old throw it out. **Q: Do I need to apply and clear coat after finished painting?** A: No **Q: Should I use a primer if my cabinets now are expresso and Im going to paint them white? I don’t want any yellowing to appear over time.** A: I had real dark cabinets , and painted nuvo titanium white!!! You have to sand them with 300 to 330 sand paper then you need to clean with dawn dish soap to make sure oils are off , then get all the dawn solution off then clean with a windex to get clean . It will take probably 3 coats of paint , to cover . I did some research and found Nuvo and decided to try it out. I’m glad I did. I’ve added photos to show the HUGE difference a can of paint makes. It’s remarkable. I decided to “white”wash my fireplace using the Driftwood color and water. It took a couple coats...was very easy to do and looks great! The cabinets were a pain to paint but they always are. The most important thing is CLEANING your cabinets well. If you think they’re clean...scrub again. I thought I had done a good job but unfortunately, I didn’t do as well as I thought. There are a few places that the paint is cracking because there was still some greasy/dirty areas. It’s not overly noticeable and I decided to leave it as is and go with a slightly “rustic” look (ie lazy). There is no need to sand with this product which was great. And I chose not to remove the doors which was fine too. I didn’t prime and it only took 2 coats to get great coverage. I’m pleased with the outcome. I chose not to use a sealant (but I debated on putting on a coat of polyacrylic)...so we will see how the cabinet paint holds up over time. This product goes a long way too. The kit come with 2 small cans of paint but I purchased 2 extra “just in case”. For my fireplace and the kitchen cabinets, I only used 1 1/2 cans. I have enough left over to paint the cabinets in our two bathrooms! Overall, this was a great buy. It was easy to use. It turned out great.
