Review: Fab New Espresso maker, but.. - We uapacked it, washed everything, reassembled. It worked the 1st time but not great. As we learned the proper amount and grind for our beans (usually "a 50:50 mix of "Trong Nuong Creative 4" and "Mexican Mocha." Now, making the best cappuccino and latte's we've had in a long time. Our machine stopped working after 11 months. Seattle Coffee authorized a warranty refund, but after three days, desertcart has yet to apply the credit to my account. No one at desertcart is responsible it seems. ,
Review: Failed after 20-30 uses. Beware: you have to pay to send it back to SCG! - I really liked this unit, and thought it was going to be a great replacement for my Saeco. It worked well at first. But after 20-30 times using it over a 4 month period, it appears that the pump has failed. OK, it's under warranty. But here's the kicker: YOU the customer have to pay to send it to Seattle Coffee Gear for warranty service. The cheapest shipping option is $70. That is a significant percent of the purchase price, for a barely used machine. I'm tempted to just cut my losses here. Sending back a second time and I'm close to 40% of the purchase price. Totally unacceptable.

**Q: How hot does the water temperature get? I just got a Philips 1200 and can only get up to 180, I'm expecting to have at least 190 degrees**
A: Hot enough! It has a PID that controls the temperature. There's no need to test the temperature because I've had this machine for 3 months, pulled many hundreds of shots, and it works great. The PID is mostly used internally to control its operation; you can only adjust it by setting the temperature to low, normal, or high, which I believe is supposed to change by 2 degrees each step. Solis has engineered this machine extremely well. The average temperature setting works perfectly for us. What matters is most is the pressure, and with our Mazer Mini grinder we're able to dial in the grind so we can consistently pull between 8 and 10 bars. The built in manometer makes it easy to see how much pressure there is on your pull. As long as our pressure is within that range, and we brew the correct amount of liquid per pull, it's delicious. It will take you a little while to get everything dialed in the way you want it. You can adjust the programmed amount for each pull. I don't know how it does it, but even if the pressure varies from pull to pull, which it invariably does as we don't tamp exactly the same for each pull, the machine somehow seems to know the rate it's pulling and will pull longer or shorter to get the right amount. It's not always consistent if the pressure is way high or way low. But as long as we're pretty close to the ideal 9 bar of pressure, plus or minus 1 to 1.5 bars, we pull about 50 grams of espresso for a 15 gram load. I highly recommend using an espresso scale to help you dial in as well as possible. I actually bought an inexpensive (just over $10!) but very accurate Maxus scale on Amazon and absolutely love it. We weigh our espresso powder in a plastic measuring cup, get exactly 15 g of powder, then load the portafilter, tamp, and brew. Before pulling, I tare out my mug to zero, then pull, then weigh the mug afterward. I don't need to do that, but I've wanted to get as consistent as possible, and controlling every step of the process is essential for that. This is a fantastic machine for the price. The thermablock is a heating monster; it will have no problem getting you the ideal temperature for your choice of beans.

**Q: If the box states that the machine was made in p.r.c., then it was made in china -- peoples' republic of china.  not switzerland, right?**
A: Yup. Worse (?) Solis appears to be a Breville brand name (like Sage) and thus likely designed originally in Australia. (not that any of this is necessarily a bad thing)

**Q: Is it made in China?**
A: PRC means “People’s Republic of China.”

**Q: Where to get the replaceable filter?  what is part # for solis barista perfetta plus. the red light is blinking.**
A: My machine shipped fromSeattle Coffee Gear and they are really helpful if you call them or email them. My user manual says it is a MAVEA Intenza water filter cartridge.
