There are copies of this circuit design out there, and I can now absolutely recommend the original here to anyone considering a cheaper copy, or an expensively revamped boutique version. Review: Good pedal for overdrive, distortion, and fuzz - My original pedal was a predecessor to this , BRAT / Roadkill (1997-2001). I wore it out so I it was time to shop around. Rolled the dice on this one and just finished my third session with it. A few thing to note: - [Distortion] knob acts as overdrive for 1-30%, distortion 30-60%, and fuzz 60-100%. - The [filter] knob is actually a reverse tone knob, so it effectively cuts treble the more you turn counterclockwise - The volume on your guitar itself will change bass/treble output through the pedal. It took me a bit to figure out because when I first plugged it in, the highs sounded too hot and bass boomed to much. So I dialed my guitar volume knob back from 10 to 7 and it sounded more balanced. - Turn your amps drive knob up to get more dirt from this pedal - Like most pedals, the pick attack adds more effect. So the way I use it is this: I play high volume with light picking so I can hear the guitar clean, just colored a bit. Then when I want distortion I pick harder and it draws the effect through. Hope that makes sense. Either way, a great pedal, especially for $60. Whatever. I've owned two of the originals. Great pedals and I bought into the myth that the new version just can't stand up to them. I bought this for my kid, warning him, "Sorry, but the guys on TGP say the new version just doesn't sound like the old ones." I'm here to say that's a load of bull. This pedal has all the snot and spirit of the original RAT. It has the same personality and tone. I suppose if you had them A/B'ed, you'd hear some tonal difference between the two. Not necessarily better...just "different." Listen, if you're an older musician like me who wants to relive the original, or you're a newer player like my kid who wants to sound like his punk/hard rock heroes who used this pedal, look no further.
