## Overview

The Pro Co Turbo RAT Distortion Pedal delivers a versatile, high-output distortion with a 100% analog signal path housed in a virtually indestructible steel enclosure. Featuring heavy-duty industrial footswitches and knobs, it offers a broad range of tones from overdrive to fuzz, enhanced by the iconic RAT Filter control and true bypass switching for noise-free performance. A staple in post-punk and indie rock for over two decades, this pedal empowers guitarists to craft unique, cutting-edge sounds that stand out in any mix.

## Description

Are you the type of musician who hears the beauty in a dissonant chord? Does feedback sound like violins to your ear? The Turbo RAT distortion pedal is for the guitarist who would rather create their own sound than emulate someone else's. Tear the system down and build it back up yourself! The Turbo RAT is the most intense pedal in the RAT family. For those brave enough to harness its power, it provides a palette of distortion unequaled by any other pedal. This is why it has been a main ingredient in the post punk/indie rock movement of the past twenty years. Boasting more than twice the maximum output of the original RAT, the Turbo RAT is hard-clipping while the mid-range frequencies are slightly scooped. With a less compressed signal, it also has a brighter tone, so you'll have no trouble being heard through the mix. Since this pedal was designed around the musical distortion that made the RAT famous, it retains these qualities without sounding harsh. The Turbo RAT features the legendary RAT Filter control. Turn it to the right to roll off brittle high-end frequencies. Having trouble cutting through the mix? Turn the Filter down and allow the natural brightness of your instrument to shine through. The Distortion and Volume controls dial in the perfect amount of gain while keeping the level consistent with your clean tone. While there's no mistaking the legendary RAT tone when the pedal is on, true bypass switching guarantees that no extra noise will creep into your signal when it's turned off.

Review: Awesome, nasty, versatile. - This can get an amazingly broad array of pleasing OD, distortion, and fuzz sounds- especially with another OD before and/or after if the amp signal is clean. I can hear crazy amounts of harmonics and octave notes at different settings. Simple and powerful 3 controls. You can hear the design influence of it's predecessors- fuzz face, tone bender, and Big Muff fuzzes. Many of those sounds are in this box. It's glorious and bombastic. I grew up and learned to play guitar in the 1990's, big fan of Nirvana. I didn't know what types of pedals Kurt Cobain or other famous people used. It didn't matter, we used what we had and turned it up LOUD to get there. Didnt know any better. This RAT pedal will get you all those similar, familiar classic sounds and, more importantly, search for our own sounds with it as a tool. There are copies of this circuit design out there, and I can now absolutely recommend the original here to anyone considering a cheaper copy, or an expensively revamped boutique version. This pedal is sweet. Just played it for an hour straight. No regerts.
Review: Good pedal for overdrive, distortion, and fuzz - My original pedal was a predecessor to this , BRAT / Roadkill (1997-2001). I wore it out so I it was time to shop around. Rolled the dice on this one and just finished my third session with it. A few thing to note: - [Distortion] knob acts as overdrive for 1-30%, distortion 30-60%, and fuzz 60-100%. - The [filter] knob is actually a reverse tone knob, so it effectively cuts treble the more you turn counterclockwise - The volume on your guitar itself will change bass/treble output through the pedal. It took me a bit to figure out because when I first plugged it in, the highs sounded too hot and bass boomed to much. So I dialed my guitar volume knob back from 10 to 7 and it sounded more balanced. - Turn your amps drive knob up to get more dirt from this pedal - Like most pedals, the pick attack adds more effect. So the way I use it is this: I play high volume with light picking so I can hear the guitar clean, just colored a bit. Then when I want distortion I pick harder and it draws the effect through. Hope that makes sense. Either way, a great pedal, especially for $60. And its built like a tank too

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Still a great pedal after all these years - even with the changes
*by A***C on June 28, 2024*

Yeah, yeah, yeah...it's not the same as the vintage version. Whatever. I've owned two of the originals. Great pedals and I bought into the myth that the new version just can't stand up to them. I bought this for my kid, warning him, "Sorry, but the guys on TGP say the new version just doesn't sound like the old ones." I'm here to say that's a load of bull. This pedal has all the snot and spirit of the original RAT. It has the same personality and tone. I suppose if you had them A/B'ed, you'd hear some tonal difference between the two. Not necessarily better...just "different." Listen, if you're an older musician like me who wants to relive the original, or you're a newer player like my kid who wants to sound like his punk/hard rock heroes who used this pedal, look no further. It's super affordable and sounds awesome. Let the TGP guys buy insanely-priced vintage versions and boutique copies. This will get you all the way there and you won't sound like such a cork-sniffer when you talk about your hand-wired pedal no one has ever heard of.
