We just happened to have a sound meter, so we attempted to test the sound with the microphone placed at 2 feet from sound source. Product was dry when tested. With no sound except a ticking office clock 12 ft away, the meter registered 25 db. For reference, our normal conversation measured a peak of 68 decibels. Two pieces of paper rubbing together measured a peak of 45 db. Two pieces of blue jean denim rubbing together registered 38 db. Rubbing the material of the poncho together measured 41 db. Next we tried vigorously fluffing the poncho after we crumpled it into a large ball shape and it registered 51 db. We found it made little sound with normal walking, but putting the poncho on registered 50 db. Next we measured a poncho with the poncho liner installed. When putting it on, it measured 43 db. The liner seemed to quiet things down quite a bit. Hope this is helpful. **Q: is this made in USA?** A: The true Military Surplus version is made in the US by IFB Solutions, formerly know as the Winston-Salem Industries for the Blind, Inc but it will cost around $100. **Q: Is this made in u.s.a?** A: Final assembly is done in US, but since the materials are imported, It's not considered made in USA. **Q: How does this work with the poncho liner? Is the liner slit for your head to fit through?** A: The matching liner works like the US military issue liners. You make a 10 to 12 inch slit in the center of the liner for your head to pass through and then use the eight sets of tie cords to secure the liner to the rain poncho. The cut made in the liner does not run or unravel because the fabric is rip-stop and is reinforced with quilted stitching. Next, place it over your head and snap up the 4 sets of double-sided snaps on each side and get ready to stay warm and dry. Also very sweaty rubbery feel compared to the treated and gifted ponchos I own. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good quality, extremely versatile, and they fit in my Emergency Bag *by D***H on 26 March 2020* I read some of the negative reviews and concede that these ponchos may be a little thinner and less rugged than genuine military issue, but they're also lighter, more compact and a fraction of the cost. Which for occasional backpacking, make them work better for me. I like that they are rip-stop and wider than most ponchos, (a full 62 inches), so in addition to keeping you dry while you're hiking, you can stretch a bit of para-cord between 2 trees and make a tent , or snap the two sides together to create a rainproof bivy over your sleeping bag. I bought 2 and they snap together beautifully to create a 2-person emergency bivy for my wife and I. My only disappointment is that there are no snaps at the bottom to close the bivy. If I can find 4 to 6 of the 2-sided snaps I'll add them myself. Or in an emergency, duct tape the bottoms together. Living in Colorado, I keep a small day-pack in my car at all times for those spontaneous hikes when we're driving through the mountains. 2 of these ponchos fit easily in my bag, along with packable down coats, thermolite underwear and a few other survival essentials. No one plans to get lost of have an emergency in the wilderness, but if you do, you'll be very glad you invested in these ponchos.
