I put them in a few hours ago and it is not at all clear what I am reading. What do you look for to learn the reading?** A: There should be a color change. Make sure you take the film off the inside sensor pad (circle in the middle). Then, it should take an hour or so for the color to change and stay consistent. Then, you compare it to the color wheel around the center circle. My Ph is high, but constant, so my vet said that’s ok. My dot is almond color (a color that doesn’t show up on the wheel. **Q: I accidently threw away to instructions. where might i find another set? i've noticed change in ph or ammonia in 24+ hours since i've placed them in** A: you don't need instructions, read the color code on the circle. If it pH is off, you cannot "fix" it as sudden change do more harm. For Ammonia, do 20% water change if it is no longer low (light yellow) **Q: Can this be used in a pond?** A: Pond is too big to rely on this one spot. **Q: Are they a one time use?** A: That would depend on how you define one time. You stick them in and they adjust their color read the ph and NH3 levels continuously. The NH3 should last a year or so, the ph about 6 months. So they will change colors back and forth as your levels change but after a year (for the ammonia) they will stop working and not change anymore. At that point you have to throw it out and get a new one. Just want to reiterate, these aren’t for replacing testing but as a an early warning system. Everytime I look at my tank I check the ammonia alert just to make sure I am reading 0 NH3 but I still do weekly water testing just to make sure. Also, it will tell you only free ammonia so a standard API test may register the NH4 (ammonium) and indicate there is ammonia while the alert is at 0 cause it is only showing the more toxic NH3. The ph indicator seems spot on based on my API high range ph test but others have found it to be less accurate.
