I followed the instructions and sharpened the blades on one side of the chain with about 3 strokes each. Once I’d made it all the way around, I did the other side. This tool makes maintaining the proper angle easy and it simultaneously knocks down the depth gauges while sharpening. The seasoned veteran may think this overkill and suggest you need nothing more than a round file. While likely true, this tool nets you results as if it was sharpened by someone much more experienced, without the time commitment and learning curve. However, be sure to purchase the correct size for your chain. This "3/8 P" STIHL 2 IN 1 EASY File Guide comes with two 5/32" inch files and is for use on the STIHL 3/8 PICCO chains and 3/8 Low Profile chains of other brands. **Q: is this the correct sharpener for my stihl ms201t** A: It's a 3/8" pitch. If you look on the side of your chain it usually is printed / engraved into the side of the chain link, what pitch your chain is. You may have a different pitch to your chain so check there but I do believe stihl makes this tool in a couple different pitches. Also , you can buy different pitch chains for the same saw so it's not really model specific. I'm sure your saw has a manufacturer recommended pitch for that saw but like I said, just look at the side of the chain links to figure out what you have. **Q: Is this the stihl 5605-750-4303 oem 2 in 1 file guide 3/8" p** A: Yes, this is the correct file for Stihl 3/8 Picco chainsaw chains. **Q: Is this proper for my MS 271?** A: I have an MS 271. It came with a 325 bar and chain. A friend told me to convert to a 3/8" bar and chain so I did. I did that brand new at the dealer so I never knew how a 325 would do. This is the important part, my MS271 - 3/8 is NOT a "P" or low profile. Im quite sure this tool will NOT work on a 271 3/8" or 325". NOW, i will order one of these because I have two Stihl MS 170s. I run both of them with 3/8 P" (or low profile) chain. Make sure that you look at your bar and make sure it says 3/8 P" or 3/8" low profile. NOW again, i said that I am ordering one of these 2 in 1 Stihl sharpening tools because I already have one for my MS 261CM. It has a 325 chain and the Stihl brand 2 in 1 tool is fantastic. Unfortunately you must have a separate tool for each size bar/chain! My MS261CM is the best saw out there! And I am going to leave the 325 bar and chain on it, cuts like a hot knife through butter. Its like the difference between a VW and Bentley. By the time I got to the door and opened it I had just a glance at the big brown truck leaving my driveway. A quick scan of the front porch led to the discovery of a brown cardboard box with a happy Prime smile emblazoned on the side. It was the big day! Only two days after placing my order, my new Stihl 3/8” 2 in 1 Easy File Chainsaw Chain Sharpener had been delivered! I headed out to my shop to try it out on my Stihl chainsaw, with which, only a few days ago I carelessly tried to sever a rock that was lying out of sight, just on the other side of the fallen pine tree I was working on. After that unfortunate episode my Stihl 361 chainsaw was pretty-much useless. I was happy to see the unit was expertly packaged and came with its own protective clear plastic pouch.
