**Q: Why must you file your piece before testing? Does this not correctly identify gold plated?**
A: I don't file the jewelry I'm testing unless I believe it is gold filled. This tester is very good at knowing solid gold from gold plated. This tester has two problems. The first is you should calibrate it with 18k gold for best results. You don't have to calibrate it every time. The second is stainless steel fools this tester. It often says stainless steel is platinum. So if you are testing something that is not hallmarked and it says it is platinum, you have to use acid or take it to a jeweler. The more you use this tester the more you will like it. It is easy to use. It is not messy. It is very accurate once you learn how to use it. I have learned to know when it lies to me. It is time   
 to recalibrate. This is the best tester out there for the price.

**Q: What technology is this machine using?**
A: The Auracle AGT3 electronically identifies impurities like copper, nickel, etc., and then, based on the average brackets of know impurity-to-gold conversions, the AGT3 instantly knows the gold purity of the jewelry piece being tested. It is a professional-grade tester that can be used for personal use and by gold and platinum buyers and appraisers.

**Q: does it test goldfill, goldplate and nongold individually?**
A: Using my AGT3 on goldfilled and goldplate sometimes give a positive reading.

**Q: "electronically identifies impurities" does not mean anything, what technology is this machine using? density, sound, conductivity, magnetism, x-rays?**

What a wonderful item this is. I buy estate jewelry and yard sale jewelry and this portable machine makes it a lot easier for me to find the hidden treasures. I also use it in my shop. It adds a great photo op when you take a picture of the reading of the piece. It adds to the confidence of the buyer to know the piece was tested for authenticity. To me it paid for itself the first time I find a treasure! Great investment.
