It worked great. **Q: Does this unit display subtitles?** A: Yes it does display subtitles. It is actually a very nice player. Easy to use and set up. **Q: Will this play dvds from the australia region?** A: It should play them. It is supposed to be Multi Region. I believe this means you can change regions a limited number of times. I am not sure if it works because I have not tried any regions except the USA **Q: Are the instructions in English?** A: Yes instructions are in English. But it is really self explanatory. And the menus from the device itself (on screen) are in English but can be adjusted. I had a great DVD player that was region free but alas, all good things must come to an end. When shopping for a new one to fit my needs, I ran across this one and ordered it. It arrived fast and after setting it up it works like a charm! No problems with other region playback and the picture quality is great. My only negative is that remote is small and sometimes it is hard to read which button is which or my fingers hit more than one.
