A 1/4" round shank will insert 1 1/4" into the head. But without the standard three flats of a cable installer bit, a smooth 1/4" round shank is likely to slip even with tight set screws. **Q: Is there a hex 5/8" masonry drill bit that will fit in this extension?** A: Yes, any hex ended bit fits **Q: My plan was to use this to clean out a 30" axle tube with a dewalt 2" flap wheel with a round 1/4" shank. will this hold the 1/4" shank sufficiently?** A: The 1/4" shank will go in no issues but the set screws that come with it are a bad joke. I had the screws torqued down ridiculously tight and 5 minutes into running an auger bit they were gone. **Q: Can these extensions be stacked one end into the other? I cant tell if the triangular end will go into the hex end and set screws secure them together** A: The bit end is a standard 1/4" hex with a set screw. The other is a round shank with 3 flat surfaces to keep it from slipping in the chuck. So, no it will not fit snuggly end to end. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Beyond Expectations *by B***N on November 30, 2024* Living in the up state of South Carolina we got hit moderately good by Hurricane Helene. As a result a red oak tree which has a base of 46 inches spit where the trunk Y'd into 2 smaller trunks about 10 feet from the ground. Rather than removing the tree we decided to try to save it by bolting the tree back together. This required drilling 3 - 1 1/8" holes throught the truck for the 1" treaded rod being used. I used this extension along with a 6" auger to make the holes. It was not easy taking a few hours, burned out a 1/2" drill and tearing up 2 bits at the end of this extension which performed flawless. I realize this extension is not intended for such heavy duty work however it performed beyond expectations. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great product and great customer service! *by E***K on March 22, 2023* This item is perfect for drilling holes in framing in walls with existing drywall. Really flexible and sturdy. Perfect for anyone installing wiring.The customer service on the part of Eagle Tool is also amazing. One of the set screws fell out and was lost. I called their customer service line and they sent replacement screws out at no cost. That is how you run a business and keep customers! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A great tool to have *by E***K on January 6, 2020* I bought this, I also bought something similar with a built in drill bit. This product is much better because if the drill bit gets dull you can simply change it out. It has proven plenty durable, as it would twist with tension if the drill bit binded up, and my drill would almost break my wrist from the torque. It's best to use a drill with a clutch whether using this product or not, but the point is it held up a lot of torque. It's also convenient to be able to change the size of the drill bit. The only down side I've seen is that the drill bits don't seem to fit all the way down into this extension and be held by both set screws. I tried many times with different bits and they only go in far enough for one of the two set screws to make contact.
