(For making re-usable molds of any body part, use Body Double silicone rubber) In addition to being an exceptional body molding material, Alja-Safealginate does not contain free crystalline silica. Alja-Safe also captures detail better than other alginates, giving you a more accurate reproduction of your original. MIX 1:1 by volume - warm water and Alja-Safe powder WORKING TIME: 8 mins DEMOLD TIME: 10 mins CONTAINS SKIN-SAFE MOLD MATERIAL AND CASTING PLASTER, PLUS HOW-TO DVD Review: Life Casting made easy - I have never done an art project of this sort before but I thought it would be a cool thing to do with my son. I watched the dvd that came with it which really helped. Also if you look up Smooth-On's website they have a bunch of other videos and demos for other products. I first made a test mold of my finger so I understood the process (recommended) and then made a mold of my sons hand. He thought it was really cool. It was enough alginate for the finger and the hand but that's about it. There was more than enough plaster. I would recommend this for anyone. Great product. Review: For Pet paws its a 2 person job. - Loved the product. Made a great replica of my dearly departed pup's paw. Only reason i docked a star on ease of use is because the bags of powder dont really tell you how much product you have for water measurement so I had to measure each bag individually cup by cup to ensure proper mixing. When putting a dogs paw inside you definitely need one person on the bucket with the mold gel inside and another on the dog holding it still. Takes about 8 minutes to set so good help is key. Plaster set pretty quick and the mold cut away easily to expose the cast. A little bit of sanding for flash lines and it was perfect. Do not cut away the mold before 3 hours time setting. BE PATIENT! The paw came out wonderfully and even has a bit of her fur embedded inside. Would 100% recommend the product to anyone wanting to memorialize their pet without paying the exorbitant prices of the vet paw print. ## Features - Includes everything you need to make a mold and casting of a hand or similar body part - Comes with: 0.85 lb. Alja-Safe Molding Gel - the world’s first and only crystalline silica free alginate (a known carcinogen), 2 lb. casting plaster, Quick Start Guide - Alja-Safe is easy to use and cures quickly. It reproduces fine detail and makes an excellent temporary mold – good for one or two reproductions of any body part. You can then cast plaster, Matrix NEO (polymer modified gypsum) or Smooth-Cast 300Q ultra-fast urethane resin into the mold to make a reproduction - Alja-Safe is mixed 1 part water to 1 part powder by volume (1 cup + 1 cup, for example) - For making re-usable molds of any body part, use “Body Double” silicone rubber.for more information on lifecasting and what these materials can do for you ## Technical Specifications | Specification | Value | |---------------|-------| | ASIN | B000QCM27Q | | Age Range Description | Adult | | Age range (description) | Adult | | Art Craft Kit Type | Sculpting | | Brand | Smooth-On | | Brand Name | Smooth-On | | Color | White | | Colour | White | | Customer Reviews | 4.1 out of 5 stars 381 Reviews | | Included Components | 0.85 lb. This kit does not come with plaster bandages. **Q: I am wanting to make a mold of 3 people holding each other's wrists(triangle shape). Will I need 2 kits? Is it safe to use over jewelry?** A: We would recommend two kits - you will also need plaster bandages. It is probably more cost effective to by the alginate in the 3# box. As for jewelry, some stones can bond, we recommend you test first. **Q: is there a kit for the hand of two people?** A: You may want to look into the Alja Safe in the 3# box. **Q: Does the amount of alginate in the kit fit in the container it came with or is it more volume than the container if I mix it all with water?** A: Yes it fit but depending on what you’re doing you may need more than one kit . ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Life Casting made easy *by T***Y on 16 May 2010* I have never done an art project of this sort before but I thought it would be a cool thing to do with my son.
